Here is the break downs
Of couse they are all similar, but from the Parst & Illustration catalogs here is what they break out as different part #'s
IF you want an EXACT fit, there are 9 different part numbers for 84-86.
1) AUTO Trans (MD8 (NO PULSE WIPER (CD4), NO TILT WHEEL N33 - 7842505
2) Same as #1 but WITH pulse Wiper - 7842506
3) Same as #1 but with Manual Trans - 7842507
4) Same as #2 but WITH Manual Trans - 784508
5) Auto Trans (MD8) (NO PULSE WIPER (CD4), WITH TILT WHEEL N33 - 7842511
6) Same as # 5 but with pulse wiper - 7842512
7) Same as #5 but with manual Trans - 7842513
8) Same as #6 but with Manual Trans - 7842514

They should all interchange. If you don't have cruise, and you put a column from a cruise vehicle in, you just won't have cruise. I believe the harness that plugs into the column is the same in all cases.
You could always pull the column apart and fix/replace whatever isn't working in yours.

Jim is right, I am pretty sure there all basically the same, the Differences are probably all swapable from one to the other...
I Just don't know why there is a diff between a manual and an Automatic transmission. Its not like we ever had a Column shift...

I have a manual 82 car that had a non-tilt column. I swapped in a tilt column from an automatic later year Firebird.
There are various differences. You cannot interchange some of the guts between tilt and non tilt columns, such as the turn signal stalk guts. The turn signal lever itself can be switched though.
Ignition switches are flipped 180 degrees between tilt and non tilt (but plug into the same harness)
The only difference on a manual car is it has a button you have to press at the same time as you turn the ignition off and pull the key out. A safety feature, that's all. You don't need it.
Generally though, they all interchange and bolt up. I STRONGLY suggest you find an entire column similar to yours. Take EVERYTHING, such as the high beam control, ignition switch, etc. If you can't find one with the correct wiper control, cruise or no cruise, etc, it's not the end of the world, you can switch those guts later.
