Headliner repair?
my headliner is sagging but the fabric is in great shape. whats the best way to fix this? its mostly sagging over the drivers side, the passenger side is almost perfect. should i just rip the entire fabric off and reapply or would it be easier just to fix the sags?

I've done the headliner in both my ta's.. Its not all that hard.. just take out the board and take the old fabric off. Clean the board with a stiff brush to get the padding off. Buy new fabric ($30) and glue ($10) spray the glue, apply fabric, and trim.. The fabric is cheap so just get new while your at it...

When you do respray your headliner let it sit with the fabric facing up towards the sky or celieng for a day or so. I didnt do that and my headliner sags because of it

alright i'll give that a shot. i wasnt planning on ripping the whole headboard out but i'll take a look at it tomorrow and see how it is for it tocome out. might as well do it right instead of trying to fix it while its still in the car i guess.

You do have a couple of options. You can use some glue in a needle and inject it into the headliner where it sags, or you can get some little "screws" at Autozone or Checker, etc. The screws hold the headliner up so it does not fall on your head. These are just temp fixes, as you will need to replace it sooner or later. One of these methods can buy you some extra time. HTH and GL.

If you want your car interior in good condition, check the Yellow Pages for a car reuphostery shop. It will then have that new factory look. Expect to pay about $150, thats the route I took.
Any temporary fixes you attempt are only temporary.

$150 for the entire interior or just the headliner? if its for the entire interior, seats, carpet and all, thats not a bad price.

OK start out by taking off the trim piece under the top of the rear hatch and headliner, remove the sunvisors you need to take off the mount too, then remove the apillar trim you have to slide it up alittle and get a tiny screw driver to release the tabs that hold it on or if your lucky they are so damn old they break off so you can replace them with new ones. Now you need to take off the trim piece off of the seat belt retractors on the headliner, they should pop off with a little screw dirver. Now you need to take off your speaker covers and loosen up the plastic trim so you can pry it back to remove the headliner. Take off the overhead console {if you have one} or int light, this one may be tricky but theres some little things on the studs they slide off with some force. Up at the front of the headliner just above the windshield there are 3 clips that are just like the apillar trim just break them too. While you have the headliner out I would fiberglass the backside of the headliner to give it extrastrength.

I know its not fun to do. It was a pain in the azz just to glass the back side of mine let alone making one from scratch.

It wasn't as hard to do as it was...umm...frustrating sometimes. The latex gloves I was wearing got sticky from the fiberglass, so I couldn't adjust the cloth as I put the resin on it. I had to use my elbows or knuckles, and it would go to far...ect, ect.
Now that I've gotten that much done, I learned that you want to use one hand to handle the fiberglass(if possible) and the other one clean to handle the cloth adjustments.
The other difficulty was getting it to form to the headliner...sometimes it wanted to, others it didn't. The more resin you use, the harder it will be. I didn't exactly put the resin on uniformly...
But I am impressed with how it has so far turned out. I don't think I've ruined anything yet. hehe After another layer or so, I'm going to cut it out with a dremel and get to sanding/painting it.
Also, careful how much hardener you use. Too much and the 1.5 - 2 hour suggested drying time will be 20 MINUTES!! Or, it will be 24 hours. Such as mine is, half and half. Some of it is rock solid, the other is still soft right now.
Anyway, I think it has so far been worth it.
