$300 for hood insulation! I think I should ditch it

Gents,
$49 from claddis industries for the pad, $140 for delivery to my Sister in FL, estimated min. $100 for shipping to the UK, plus 17.5% import tax.

I have read a few posts on "search" that suggest the under hood insulation is more geared towards sound than heat protection. If I'm not goning to have a problem with the engine heat/hood paint, I'll ditch it.

Car: 85 Camaro SC

I've been without insulation under the hood for more than 9 months now with no problems. What kind of tempatures are you seeing under the hood? With the cooling setup I made for my car 85 2.8. I keep the temps around 185*.

The sun beating down on the hood will get it hotter than the engine will. Mine's never had it since I've owned it. Purchased in 1994.

Ditch it mate! I got rid of mine a while back... Little more induction roar. The other thing I did was remove the rubber strip at the back for an additional HP

what about pulling the insulation out of another car (any car at all) and just sticking some of it up there? Bound to be better with a volvo's insul superglued to the underside of the hood than no insulation eh?

Was waiting for that one Guess if really wanted to replace it more economically I could find something to fit. Think I'll try the Custom Car mags.

heh yah it's ghetto....But i dont think i've ever seen a decent looking hood insulation yet, except on show cars that dont really drive much (or get washed daily with a tooth brush) Allways gets all dingy and dusty. BUT, for less than probably $30, you can throw some cruddy stuff up there and not worry about ruining the $600 paint

Car: Black 89 Formula
Engine: ??????????
Transmission: ??????????
removing the hood seal at the back of the hood will let some of that hot air out but be warned if you take your car to a high pressure washer water gets in there so just replace it or wash your car by hand like i do never had a problem since then.Couldnt you just by that thermo tec heat pad thats got reflective material looks better also than just black faded material hanging there.
