Gauges, no needles?

Hello, I finaly got my 85 Camaro home the other day. And got it started. The guy I got it from (my cousin) said it had a cracked radiator (which it doesn't). So I'm thinking it's a bad head gasket and the coolant is being burnt off...but thats another thread. When I first got in the car I noticed that there weren't any needles on the voltage, temp, and oil gauges. Just a red light that comes on when I turn the ignition on. I have the 5 gauge cluster with the 85mph speedometer. Should there be needles on the 3 middle gauges? Or just idiot lights behind them. Thanks

to the creator of the "star wars" gauge cluster. I had one in my SC a long time ago. Me and Fanman have and had the same motor problems. When I first bought the car I put all brand new sensors on the motor, oil, and temp switch units or what ever they are called. One night I was driving home from work and all the sudden my car just died it didnt give any notice nor check engine light. So I pulled over and tryed to start the SC back up then all the sudden an steam cloud shot out of from under my hood and I knew what happened then. My radiator hose blew off due to my fan motor dieing and I blew my pass head gasket and cracked both heads. The thing that giped me was the fact that the water temp light never came on giving me any kind of warning But due to that my SC is nearly completly restored and updated to resemble an 88 SC and I have real gauges that work properly Now what would have been really cool is if the 3 gauges plastic cover that goes on them where gradually tinted as it goes from the bottom to the top. Say the temp gauge would be at 100* and as the temp went up the light bulb would get brighter and brighter making a it look like a digital guage. It would have been an awesome gauge cluster if gm thought of that and put a tach with them too.

I need to get photoshop, lol. Here is a modified pic of bubbakutz's cluster. It would have been so awesome if gm did this to the "starwars" clusters.

I had the same idiot light cluster. I hated it and replaced it with an actually guaged clusted from a Z28. All I had to do was swap out the oil and temp. sending units for guage units and plugged it in. The cluster was $75 on ebay.
I like the guages much better.

Your lucky you have a Lg4 and not a LB8. Then your stuck having to find a v6 cluster or mix a v8 gauges with v6 oil and tach.

What would of been better was if GM would of used the dummy lights, but still had a tach....the giant fuel gauge is hideous...
