?'s about removing fender

i've been chasing a leak for a while now, and yesterday it looked like the point of entry was around a wire bundle on the passenger side kick panel area. before i thought i had a hole in my floor board, now i have to look closer at that... anyways, i've never done any "body work" before, just kinda wondered how hard it'll be to pull the fender. i didn't see anything in the tech articles, looked at my chilton's book, and it doesn't look that hard. is it necessary to remove the hood to remove the fender, though?
thanks...

yep, you have to take the hood off so you can take the hood hinge off.

BTW...if it is your passenger fender, make sure you take the antanna off(i forgot once )

Firstly, you may not need to pull the fender.Mine(before I repaired it) leaked in the passenger side. This was caused by a rotten firewall right up near the dash.It seems that leaves collect under the heater blower motor housing and gradually rot it.Theres no way you can see this from either side until it's too late.If you do need to pull the fender, the nosecone and the assembly holding the headlights needs to come off first.

erictheviking, i hate to ask, but how did you repair the damage? what all did you have to do? i was talking to someone else about this same issue, and said it could be the same thing. how do you get to that area to repair it? is it the part right under the windshield, where that screen is, or do you actually have to pull the blower out? i've done that before, just want to make sure i look in the right place(s)... thanks...

If you do have to remove the fender, you do not have to remove the hood. I have done this many times. Support the front of the hood with an adjustable clothes prop (or similar) and just remove the bolts holding the hinge to the fender. The hood will move slightly forward and the hinge will move inwards. Just push it away from the fender if it doesn't move far enough. I sometimes fasten a rope from the mirror to the hinge to make sure it doesn't move too far forward.

Looking at the pic Andy posted I'm assuming that you don't need to remove the bumper after all?

I have attached a photo in an attempt to show all the attaching bolts (give or take 1 or 2!). The bumper doesn't really need to be removed. I just undo the various nuts/bolts and lever the corner of the bumper forward, pull the rear of the fender outwards and slide the fender back. Easier said than done, but far easier than removing bumper!!
The one bolt that causes problems is the one halfway down the fender to bumper flange but a bit further in. If you see what I mean. Remove the inner arch liner (plastic), get a torch and have a good luck.

A bit fiddly at times but possible.

Great pics Andy. I've added them to my collection of tech info that I'm compiling.

Do you goto any shows in the UK?

my main problem was getting to the nuts that attach the bumper cover to the fender. other than that it is pretty easy.
