Rear Window
Has anyone thought about having a rear window wiper? Thought that would be cool to have in heavy rain. Also, is there a way to get a rear window defogger aftermarket?

It might be possible to find one at a junk yard. I'm not sure but I think they were available from 82 to 86 or 87. A friend of mine had a 83 sc with t's and he didnt like it or me for a matter of fact, but thats just my opinion though. It also looked like there use to be a huge rainbow sticker or something on the back glass from where the wiper had been through a million times. And it was just another place for water to get in from.

85SportCoupeto89RS, your car looks exactly like mine. I was just wondering if it could be done. Just never seen one. Mainly I'm interested in the defogger. Is there an aftermarket kit or soemthing?

I havent seen any aftermarket vendors for making a hatch defroster or back glass wiper. You'll need a friend for this but it would be real easy to go to a junk yard that has a hatch with defrost, get it and the wiring harness and switch for the defrost. You need to search on the electronics board on how to wire the harness in, cause I havent added a defrost hatch to my car so I have no idea how or where to wire it in. Then unbolt the deck lid on both hatches and change the weatherstripping and silicone that goes inbetween the glass and put your decklid onto the defrost hatch. Make sure you tork down the bolts to thier correct numbers, if not you could risk shattering the glass. I'm pretty sure there are others that have done this so you might wanna try a search for hatch swap.

It is also important to note that the hatch struts are different for a car equiped with rear defrost. They have deals for the plugs to attach to. I think they are grounds but I am not certain as to what they are really for. That rear hatch is heavy also. As for the rear wiper blade, they were a factory option on 1983 and 1984 Firebirds and Trans-AMs. I have never seen one on a Camaro. Though it is possible there are some out there that had one. I would also like to point out that many people that have had the rear wiper have removed it and filled in the hole in the rear deck lid so that it looks like they never had one. It isn't the best looking device for our cars at all. In fact I will see if I have a pic of one. You can see the hideousness for yourself.

If I remember correctly the plugs attach to the metal strips on the hatch and not the struts, but I could be wrong. I tottal agree with 87WS6, that wiper is very damn ugly especialy when I saw the one on my friends 83 SC.

Last time I looked JCWhitney had a kit for the rear glass. Comes in different sizes. Heard bad reports of this way of doing things. They say it is better to repair the wires if possible. My rear defroster is the same also. I would like to get it repaired, but the tint is between us.
