Thinking about switching to all aftermarket gauges
I was wanting to know if anyone has switched to all aftermarket gauges and kept the "stock" look. I was thinking about doing this and I made a crappy pshop pic. What do you think? How hard would it be to do? Do you just swap them in there or do you have to get adapters for all of them?
Thanks

I did the speedo swap in my car becuase i needed the electronic speedo for the T56....well i didn't need to as there were other options, but this is the one i chose. Before you go and do this...you void any kind of warranty on the guage so be aware.
Sorry for the crappy quality, haven't gotten around to take some better ones.

He means that you void the warrany on the aftermarket gauge, not the car, probably because you have to take the gauge 'guts' out of the gauge housing in order to put it in the stock cluster.

Ward is correct....I don't have a warranty on my 14 year old car either and i'm sure a few other mods would have voided that warranty anyways. I used the Autometer Sport Comp electronic version (160 mph)....it took some hacking of the factory guage pod, but nothing major. I only mentioned the gauge warranty becuase new this is a pricey guage so you best hope its a functioning gauge before you take it apart. All in all I'm glad I did it. I Just need to make an overlay so it will match the other guages. I'm also thinking of doing the tach since the factory one is waaaaay off. I need to bury it in order to shift at 6100 and I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge so the factory one isn't used anymore.

Wow... that's the first time I saw an aftermarket gauge in a Camaro that didn't look retarded. Do you have any more pics of it? I'm inspired now.

Just the 2 crappy ones on the page I linked. I need to take some more. Maybe after I get back from my little trip next week I'll snap a few more with the new camera. I agree with you. IN general I don't like how aftermarket gauges look in place of the factory stuff so I wasn't really sure going in how it would look....all I knew was that I wanted it to look somewhat factory. I am pretty pleased with the results considering I didn't really have a plan when I started prying the bezel off of the gauge.

ragtop88, that is one of the sweetest things I've ever seen.
Which size gauge did you use?
Thanks,
Jesse

Thanks. I got in trouble last time I recommended a size for someone, but I think it was the 3-3/4" (or maybe 3-3/8") Best thing I can tell you is measure your gauge opening and then Autometer has a webpage that lists different dimensions for there gauges. Speedo I tihnk are only offered in 2 sizes a 5" and a 3-3/X". hth
