Help a youngin!!!
Hi i am 16 and i have been building a Thirdgen Camaro for the past year! I hope to have it out this spring! But i wanted to know what the best wheel tire combo is? Ive heard 15 by 7! But i wanna hear it from guys who own these cars and race/drive them a lot!!! If you could please give me some ideas that would be great thanks ~Dan
p.s I also cant decide on wheels either so if you have an idea what looks cool on Thridgen Camaros that would help????

from a youngin to another, i personally think the iroc 5-spokes are real sweet and i plan to find some of those in the future when the car's done. they're 16x8's but i have no clue about tire sizes. i would also like some advice on a size for this rim!!!

I think the 16" Irocs or Z28s are pretty sweet. You can find them for about $400, take a look in the classifieds here. As for the tire size, I'd stick with 245/50/16's or 255s in the rear. Seemed to be a good combo on my old camaro (245s in the front, and 255s in the rear). Closest to stock I believe.
I just bought these rims for $350 (with 3 tires) off a fellow thirdgen.org pal. Just do a little searching on here, and you'll find what you're looking for.

Stock tire size on the 16x8 Iroc rim would be 245/50/16
Hope this helps. O ya.. My vote are for TT2's... though i think z28racer has talked me out of getting them

holy **** thats crazy!! but i heard that if you go too big and sticky in the rear that you could really tear up your rear end and transmission- is this true? 16x8's are fine with me

16x8's are a good choice, they fit pretty wide tires (245/50-16), and they have a nice sidewall/rim ratio. They will also cost a lot less than most 17" setups.
As far as what wheels, the later IROC/Z28 wheels are a nice choice. It's a classic 5-spoke. GTA / BBS style wheels are also nice. Look for NeedForSpeed's car, and if you can find it, CarNDriver's car

Actually, I have 255/60/15's on my daily driver 4.6L Thunderbird LX. Guess what? The wheels are 15x6.5.

Those are some of the smallest wheels you can get for our cars and the avaliable tire sizes for that wheel give you a very small contact patch. Whats the widest tire you can fit on a 7 inch wide wheel? I'm pretty sure its 225's.The widest I ever went on the 15x7's was 215. Thats what I run in the rear of my 90 rs when I drift. Those cant grip worth a damn compared to 245's or bigger. For regular driving I use 245's. For grip racing I use 275's. I'm assuming he dosnt want to slide around when he races so maybe he should get some wider wheels. The wider the wheel gets the bigger the contact patch. The bigger the wheel gets the smaller the sidewall. These are the directions you want to go as far as the wheels and tires when you want a car to handle good.

i recently put torq thrust II's on my baby and i got 17x7 with 245/45/17 on them and the 245s do fit fine on 15/16/17x7s and they stick out a little past the wheel so if you do happen to hit the curb you dont touch your wheel at all you just bump the tire a little. i would have went with 17x8s all around but they guy said there would be a rubbing problem in the front, and i think he was right, if i crank my steering wheel, sometimes the front tires will rub. but for looks i wouldnt suggest anything but TTIIs.

Sorry I was just trying to help. I dont think your dumb or anything, you asked why I said that so I replied. Thanks for telling me that you can fit wider tires than I thought possible on 15x7's. I can use that info to try new tires sizes when I drift. And I think I will do just that. I'm too used to big wheels where the tire sidewall becomes small and you become very limited in your width choices. I forgot 15's have 60 or bigger sidewall so you can get away with bigger widths.
I still think he should get at least 16's. But thats my personal opinion.

No sweat bro. I am running the BFG Radial T/A's, and I have (4) sets of them. (1 set per Tbird , and one set for the malibu) [Geez, why could I not get a quanity discount with that!?!] I am really happy with them, and would not hesitate to recommed them. The 15x7 Z28 style wheels are so cheap and plentiful, and when you refinish/polish them they really look great.
Like luvrgodd was saying, this setup is also great in the respect that the tires stick out past the rim lip (looks much better IMHO than the 215/65/15) so if you smack a curb you don't wreck a wheel in the process. (My '90 Tbird is well documented proof, just ask my g/f who drives it everyday and likes to park -on- the curbs. To her credit however she is getting better about this.)
16's do look great though, but cost a little bit more, along with the tires.
