Backup lights

Does anyone make an extra-bright bulb that will fit in the existing socket and tail-lamp assy that will let me see a bit better when reversing?

Or how about a superbright LED replacement for those expensive as hell little halogens in the hi-mount tail light that burn out after about 1 year?

Thanks!!

Thanks, but those are not the right type. My high mount stop light uses those little bi-pin based Halogens, not a wedge base. Like on an 89.

By "bi-pin", you mean the ones that you push and turn to get to lock down in the socket? Cuz...that's what those are...

Maybe I'm missing something?

Not quite. By "bi-pin", I mean they have two straight wire pins extending down from their base about 1/4 inch long. The bulb itself is real small. It plugs straight into the little socket which has 2 little holes the pins slip into. It's held in place and supported only by the grip of the socket on the pins. Make sense?

I don't know what the problem is, but those things have a very short lifespan. I think the hi-mount tail stoplight on my car uses 5 or 6 of them, and they last about a year or so. They cost about $7 each to replace. There has gotta be a better solution to spending $30 plus a year on the damn things. thanks.

Thanks, but those PIAA accessory bulbs are just regular bulbs with a blue coating. I want a brighter bulb, not a colored bulb.

I found some other outfit called LEDtronics or some such, who makes a 1156 replacement with white LEDS, and they use more LEDS than that Superbrightled outfit. Let's see if they respond to email questions.

Thanks.

Do you know the part number of the bulbs you want. Everywere I look for backup light for a 88 Iroc it says 1156. The link that I gave you before fit the 1156.

Brian,

I apologize for any confusion. I am really looking for two different lamps. Yes, the backups are 1156, and I want something for that socket that is a bit brighter. The PIAA 1156 bulbs appear to be standard bulbs with a blue filter. I want brighter, not bluer. I think someone may make a 50 Watt halogen replacement, but a pair of those would double the current draw and I don't want to burn up the harness or switch contacts.

I am also looking for bulbs used in the hi-mount tail stoplight (on the rear spoiler) which won't burn out as frequently, and those are the little bi-pin thingies. I hope this clears up any confusion. Thanks.

Oh, that little halogen bi-pin lamp, I think, is a type 891 or something like that. Not too common. I've seen them for as low as $5 each, and for as much as $11 each. I want an LED replacement for that thing.
