Fitment problems on 4th gen console
Hey guys, I picked up a 4th gen console for $60, its the one that has 4 cupholders so I'm guessing out of a 97+ Camaro/Firebird, it's 6 speed manual console, but I am still having problems getting the shift plate to fully latch onto the bottom part of the console. The shifter (inside) is in tbe way of the curve holding the cigarette lighter. Have any of you guys encountered this problem? Easy fix available? BTW I have an Auto.

I had to notch my console where the shifter cable (I have an auto) goes through. This enabled me to sit the console down lower, flush with its surroundings.

It's not the cable that's making it not fit, it's that semicircle part mounted on the right of the shifter, is there enough plastic under there to trim off without going through?

I had to move mine over a little bit to get it fit in there better, you can see the pics at nosaints site ,go HERE! then click on trans on the top left side then click on misc. on the right and you will see my install there.Hope that helps some.It would have fit without moving it but I think it looked like it was to far to the pass side.

Oooh, dang missed by 1/2", that really sucks. I really don't want to move the shifter over. Is there an easier way?
Edit: If I don't have to get any extra brackets or bolts, moving the shifter looks easier enough. How long did it take you to do that?

I got lucky, I didn't have to drill. The shifter just had to be loosened and pushed toward the back a bit, and the console pushed as far forward as possible. Now I have a great looking console and 4 cupholders!
Anyone want to buy a good condition 3rd gen auto Firebird Console with the holes for the window switches???
