Maybe some VATS issues?
Ok, so I bought an '89 IROC the other day. The owner lost the keys, and had new ones made. The car has VATS installed, but it randomly had stopped working on the previous owner, so the new keys dont have the chip in them. What are the odds of VATS kicking in again, and me finding myself up the proverbial creek? Any idea what it'd cost me to get it fixed/replaced/whatever? I'd kind of like to have a working system, given the relatively short car lifespan in my part of the world. Thanks.

I had the same problem in my old 92 RS, my buddy turned VATS off in the chip, but, the security light still comes on every once in a while, but i think the ignition is going out in that car...
if VATS kicks back in, good luck, it aint moving nowhere...
what i would do, is disable VATS in the chip(im sorry, but splicing wires here and splicing wires there, doesnt sound fun to me)...

They sell the stuff to bypass the vats system if you want to use a remote starter. It may help you out. Also a dirty key will do it, I had that happen to me also, couldn't figure out why it wouldn't crank. (I had just gotton the car and was 17 at the time and didn't know about the vats system)

I would reprogram the chip and turn off the VATS...
