headlight adjustment
I just put a rebuilt headlight motor on my 90 GTA.It goes up farther than it needs to and also goes down to far,is there a way to adjust it?

There is a threaded shaft with a slot and a sheet metal locknut on it on the end of the motor that adjusts the stroke of the motor. Undo the sheet metal locknut and adjust the threaded shaft in or out, then tighten the locknut. I don't know if there is enough adjustment if you assembled the large nylon gear too far off from its original position. That is why in the instructions I include with my headlight repair kit, I caution to mark the original location of the nylon gear and the location when you've pulled out the motor. The worm drive of the motor will rotate the nylon gear closkwise as you disassemble it. It will rotate counter-clockwise as the motor is reinstalled to the body as it meshes with the teeth of the nylon gear. Some other kit manufacturers instructions advise to keep the gear from rotating as you remove the motor. But that can damage the teeth of the nylon gear. On the version of the headlight unit that has the actuator rod going through the side cover, the worm drive of the motor has to be removed from the nylon gear. There is a molded lip on the nylon gear that won't clear the teeth on the worm drive. So the nylon gear will hang up on the worm and not release without damaging that lip. If you replaced the OEM nylon gear with the brass machined aftermarket ones this won't matter, since the teeth are cut all the way through and there is no lip. On the other version that has no hole in the side cover, the nylon gear can be removed without removing the motor. I have the same problem, the headlight goes too far down and there is a big gap between the headlight and the nose. I tried adjusting it with the slotted rod on the underside of the motor, but it won't adjust up. Am I going to have to take my new motor apart and reposition the gears?

Yeah, I know this is an old topic, but I want to bring it back up because I'm still having this problem. Does anybody know for certain how to cure a headlight motor that goes down too far. I've seen a number of pictures of birds that apparently have this problem, somebody has to have a solution.
