Question about Chemical Stripers or media blasting
How should I ......
Strip my engine bay along with Jams for a color change? (im going from Black to Dark Cloision)(sp)
I already have the COMPLETE int. out.The dash and all. whole 9yards. Complete wireing. under hood and in the car. carpet, etc. Im talking everything. This way I can go a little farther in them most people/places would so you dont know it was a color change..
anyways should I beadblast it. or use a cemical striper? I have both ways to do it.
Chemical is easier to clean up after. Bead would be a pita to make sure all the media was cleaned out of crevises etc.
Thanks
Chris

SEM makes this stuff called "Sand Free", you spray in the doorjambs, underhood, wherever it's hard to sand, what it does is soften the paint that's there, giving you a good surface to bond new paint to. You spray a coat, let it dry 10-15 min, spray another, then shoot the color while the second coat is still wet. I've used it with success, but I didn't change the color.
If you wanna check it out the part # is 38364

your factory paint is actually one of the best primers you could ask for. It is baked on at the factory, all in set conditions. Your best bet is to CLEAN everything very thouroughly, then sand well. It sounds like your car is apart, so getting everything scuffed and able to get the color to it sounds like no problem. I don't know what condition your paint os on, but I would suggest beading or stripping the paint only if there was a lot of buildup of old paint or shoddy bodywork under what you already have.
