filling in the wheel wells (17" or 18")?

hey guys,

im about to pick up a set of custom rims for my 89 iroc and i wanted something thats going to fill up the wheel wells nicely, but at the same time i want to run 275's up front and (if i can) 315's out back. i know a 17x9.5" and 17x11" combo will fit and allow me to run the tire combo that i want (im not afraid to hammer the wells a bit or roll the fender lip), but i was wondering if a 18" wheel will fill up the wheel well perfectly, or is a 17" enough?

also, i have an eibach prokit installed and koni yellows at all 4 corners. i thought since i could make the konis rock hard, an 18" wheel might be feasible, but i was concerned that i wouldnt be able to run as wide a tire with 18's....is any amount of hammereing/rolling going to get the 18's with a 315 in the back to fit??? anyone done this???

I went with 17" inch rims and it fills the front wheel wells good.....

but it doesn't fill the back wheel wells very good.....

I would go with 18" rims, unless you plan on dropping it.....

well, its already dropped about 1.5" (prokit). would 17x9.5's up front and 18x11's out back work? i imagine i wouldnt be able to run a 315 tire with those though....

5L,
Ive got 9x18" Front and 10"x18"rears with 265/40/18" all round.

When it comes to replace these I going to try 245/45x18"F and 275/40x18"rears.I feel the fronts are just a touch too wide on the 9"rims and also the 265s follow the road imperfections quite a bit.
18s are a must for filling the arches plus 1.5" lowering springs

powermite: wow, perfect man! thats exactly what i wanted to see. im determined on running a 315 tire out back, so im going to see if i can get my bodyguy to squeeze a 18x11" rim in there. as for the fronts, im still debating whether a 17 will fill it up enough, or if i should say to hell with it and go with an 18"...thanks though!

I feel sure its possible with a 4th gen rear, not sure about a 3rd gen without spacers. Redraif's rear wheels are 17x8 with 245/4017s (she has spacers), and I can nearly get a whole fist between the back of her tire and the wheelwell/frame rail. I'm planning an 18x10 or 18x11 rear on my 'bird (with a 4th Gen width Moser 9")...I say go for it, 17s don't fill the wheelwell enough even with a Pro Kit (she has it, with the fronts cut...still too much gap).

hehe, sorry about the double post, but i didnt know where to post to get some good replies and i wanted as much feedback as possible.

lt1guy: ive got an aftermarket 9" (currie). the rims are being made custom, so ill have them built with as much backspace as i want. i was thinking 5.5" in front and 6.75" in back. sound about right?

I'd hate to guess...I would think it would have to be at least than much.
