Clear Side Markers

Ok, before you guys attack me and say use the search engine, there are in fact, about 40,000 posts regarding clear side markers, but I have 2 questions, that I have not found an answer for on those threads...

1. How are you guys installing them? Most people seem to be getting them from procarparts.com, do they come as one unit, or do you have to remove the old yellow ones with a razor blade and glue the clear ones on?

2. The consensus seems to be that everyone is using an amber colored bulb, even tho they have clear markers. Is there something wrong with using one of those mock HID bright white lights? Is this some sort of legal issue? I confess I'd never heard of this one. I could see if you used blue or red or something, but I didn't think white would be illegal. (You know which ones I'm talking about, they're found in the junk aisle at auto zone where you find those skull shifters and neon pedal covers. The ones that are blue tinted.)

Thanks,
Mathius

I am using 96 accord bumper lens. I just put them in and used paper clips to hold them in place. Pretty ghetto but it gets the job done and takes less than 20 min. As far as bulbs, right now i have the amber ones in there but i have had the blue ones too, they are too blue and didn't match my turn signals in front. I haven't used the bright white ones yet!

The proparts ones are complete replacments. Just get under the fender and remove your stock on and put the new one in.

I would guess that white bulbs in these side marker lights isnt legal.

Huh. I can't really see a reason for that. Thanks for the quick reply, guys. Anyone have a clue as to _why_ they aren't legal? Is amber the only legal color?

As far as I know, amber up front and red in the rear are the only two legal colors. Call up your local Highway Patrol and ask them as they will have that info.

Here in Texas, your front running lights must be amber, and the rear running lights must be red. Also, it must be a colored lens, not a colored bulb. Blackouts are legal however, since the color and the lens is still there.

Where we are, I don't think clear lens are illegal up front, but they want you to run amber bulbs. Black outs are illegal. And clears are illegal in the back. I think the reason they want amber is because it is universal. People know a blinking yellow is a turn signal. White they may not notice. Though you are suppoesd to be the one yeilding when you are turning, so its all up to the cop really. I mean there is nothing on teh books about teh color specifically. red and blue just fall into impersonating an emergency vehicle...

Though I don't care. I have black outs on the chevy dually frt lights and signals and clears in the back with the older style black light covers with the parallel cut outs. The truck is black and the black outs look nice up front. I get a chrome line, black line a chrome line, black line and finally a chrome line. Man this would be easier if I had pics scanned. The clears in the rear look good with the chrome bumpers. I also changed to clear running lights across the tailgate and roof. They have white/clear bulbs and no one has said anything.

On my bird, I have the clears up frt and on the frt side markers. I have red bulbs in them. I have yet to be hasseled.

Probably means this weekend I will get busted for it. But I just plead the dumb girl act. Seems to work. That and having replacement bulbs in the car ready to go it they mess with me!
