Easy Shut Door ?

I hope this is where I should post this. If it's not, I apologize. I don't wanna sound crazy or anything by this question, It's just something I've thought about quite often, and there may be no possible solution. But I'm gonna ask anyway. Here's the deal. You go to shut your door, and crap, it doesn't shut. It's only caught on the first click. So now you've gotta unlock your door just so you can give it a sharper slam the next time. Any remedy for this?....No, my bushings aren't bad or anything.....it's just they way my doors have always shut. Even my 90 model does it. The reason I ask, is because my wife's "gag" Mercury Sable doesn't have to be slammed. If it doesn't shut all the way, an EASY, and I repeat, EASY push will allow it to completely shut. I was just wondering if anyone had tackled this problem, or am I the only one worried about it.

I agree with you there, but aside from the weight, you think there my be a different type of latching system out there?

You know what I'm wondering is why do they make doors that have 2 stages of closed? Even on our new Envoy, it can be latched, but it's not all the way closed... our Explorer, and our Expedition does it, and of course my car w/ sagging doors... Why DOES it have to be in 2 stages???

I think the double latching thing is some sort of safety issue, kinda like double latching hoods. Some dumbass probably fell out of his/her car and now we have double click latches.
I am in no way a Ford person, but they have their door latches figured out. I had a 71 LTD in high school (Hey it was $200)and it was hit in the passanger door HARD! still if the door didn't latch the first time (very rare) a little push "click" done. My friend's Rustang same way he always bitches at me for slamming his doors. That would be the only thing from Ford I'd put on my car, their latches, maybe a 9 inch.
