No Power for my GTA Seats???

My 91 GTA lumbar seats never worked when I bought the car. I removed the driver seat, lubed the tracks and checked for power, and only got power from the 2 pin white connector and not from the black 4 pin connector. Is this right? Someone had cut the wires from the actual switch on the drivers seat, so I soldered them back on and plugged everything in, but still nothing.

Ive done a search and all I've come up with is information that the drivers side controls the passenger side etc. Can someone please offer feedback who has electrical talent or has had to do this repair.
Thanks

Shoot,
I cannot remember for the lif of me how they wired in the switches. You might be well off to remove your seat and start looking at the wiring, and seeing if you have continuity in all of your switches. If the pump is not getting power that might cause this. Unfortunately I do not remember how they worked.

On mine I had an interesting problem, actually 2, but the problem I had was the seat would not pump up, the motor would run for a split second and then shut off. What happened was I had a crimp in the lines going to the seat back, and it would not let the pump pressurize the bags. It would work fine if I leaned the seat forward, but not in the upright position.

It also could be your pump has gone bad or even a Bad ground. from either someone kicking it around, or they did not install it properly. Under the carpet there is a wire that attaches to the chasis, make sure its not rusted or coroded.

hope that helps

John

Thanks for the response. I have another question though - if I detected power from the switch would that not mean that the ground is okay? As you can see I am 'electrically challenged'.
Thanks again

That would depend on what you grounded it to. If you grounded your negative lead to some screw on the threshold, then it would mean that you have power to that wire, Which indicates nothing as far as the ground wire.

If you tested from one wire to the other then it should mean that you have a descent ground, or something could be shorted out. Its hard to say without actually looking at it.

Ground seems good. I wonder if anyone has pictures or diagrams of the wiring I could use as a guide.
Thanks all

I could not find a wiring diagram in the book real quick...

Did you actually look under the seat to make sure your getting power to the pump?

Hi John, thanks for all your input.
I actually had removed the seat to get at the wiring because it's so tight under there. I am definitely getting power from the white 2 pin plug. Am I supposed to have power from the black 4 pin as well?
I also noticed there is another plug on the 'seat' side (as opposed to the floor) that is not being used, or at least I cannot find anything for it to plug into.
Thanks again

Ok,
Its been a while, so I might be wrong... but I am pretty sure on this.

There is a 4 wire plug that goes to the passenger seat, as well as 2 hoses.

There is a power wire, and a ground wire that plugs into the seat.

do you have a box under the front of the driver seat where everything plugs into?

is that what your talking about?

Yes, there is a box under the seat and the wires hang down to meet the power connector.
