hit a deer with my car
Take a look a look at what happened to my car when i hit a deer doing about 55- 60. Well my question is that the insurance company has given me enough money to get it fixed, but im not sure if its worth it. Ive been tossing a few ideas around like, maybe finding another camaro or firebird, parting my car out ect...
Some opinions would be great.

Here's what i would do.....
Take the insurance money
Part the car out
and buy a new camaro.......It looks like that will get a salvage title......
Glad to see nobody was hurt......I hit a deer, I mean a deer HIT ME the first day i bought my car...

Heres what she looked like before all this mess. I do consider myself very lucky. The deer almost came through the window. The windshield was touching the bill of my cap afterwards. For this reason I dont think ill ever get a convertable.

Car: too many ...
definately dont use that money to have it fixed. I got my 92 B4C for $4500! but hey if the frame is straight then I say keep it as a side project. good excuse to practice welding or painting. damage dosnt look that bad .. driver fender, hood, and then the roof section would have to be pushed out and new windshield installed. but I mght be wrong ... maybe it is a lost cause. Maybe you could make it a vert?? hehehhe
but hey if you ever messed up and it just came out horrible I bet you could still part it out then and make just as much money as if you had parted it out now.

Geez, what a mess, glad you didn't get hurt.
But, yeah, I would part that out, keep the money and get something else.
Personally, I'd pay 4200 to have my car fixed. I've already paid a fortune for my car, why not add a little more?!

Well i think im leaning on finding a cheap solid car, possibly one with a bad motor or v6. That way i can just swap my motor and trans right in. But im still not 100% sure on it.
logikal- i dont really know what body kit is on my car. It was like that when i bought it, but i did take a look under my front gfx, and stamped in the back was the name D.H. Buch from some town in CA. Hope this helps

Hit a deer also...
...I was in a van that a deer totaled and a 16 wheeler finished off.
Scary s***!
Part it out. Why play with the body. Hell for $4200.00 you can be riding real 3rd gen pretty with lot's of parts to spare. I would not by the V6 or bad motor and swap. Why? Because for that money i could buy what I want and sell the motor from my damaged car. Any way you can't go wrong. Good Luck.

What insurance co are you using, do you just have full coverage or do you have antique/modifed insurance, I didn't think the insurance would ever pay more than about 3k on a thirdgen before totaling it out, and then not much more than 3k.
I may have to switch :-)

Yeah what kind of insurance do you have. 4k is alot to get, was your car appriased before the dear?
my friend with a 93 Corba in perfect condition got into an accident that wasnt his fault, the other insurance company wanted to total it and give him 6k (I think for it) he said no way, you cant find one in any condition for that price, not to speak of the condition. Well after a couple phone calls they gave him 13k and let him keep the car.
Needless to say its all rebuilt now (no R Title) with a 351 and everything else from the suspension up new for performance.

I had just full coverage on the car. I was also suprised to hear how much i got, since i didnt expect i would get over 3k. But i think the call i made to the insurance company, saying they better not screw me over with this, helped also. Plus the appraser who came to look at the damage from the company may helped, because he said the car was probably worth 6500 to 7k. Oh ya Fremont Mutual is the name of the company. But IMO not a good company. I have some pretty high premiums, it wont take them to long for them to start making money of me again.

Buy another third gen, use your for parts. Take your motor and rebuild it. You can even make a Toga top for your other car. Somebody has done it here before!! Sorry to hear about what happen, but you can take the money and and combine the two for a bad@ss car. If you have to much money in your car now, buy another car that has T-tops or something like that and take two cars into one. It might be easier to get aother roof, there are factory weld joints that can be cut and swapped.

It really doesn't look all that bad.. I'd personally fix it (myself) and pocket the extra cash. Good to hear there were no injuries though.
Btw... out of curiousity... what gfx are on your car ?

Part that one out and then use the insurance money + the money you get from parting it out to buy another car. You should be able to find a pretty nice one for the money you end up with.

For all that was wondering about my gfx, i dont know exactly who makes them, or where to find them. They were on the car when i bought it. All i know is theres a name D.H BUCH stamped in the back of the front gfx, with some town in CA.
Well tomarrow im getting another estimate on my car, this guy supposely can get the hood and fender from a junkyard, and able do most of the work alot cheaper than the insurances estimate. So if i get a reasonable est. i might just fix it.
flynlow92rs. - The deer actually hit my fender first then rolled on the hood, then to the windshield and roof. But i still dont know how my the paint on my bumper got chiped. You can see it in the pic.

We have that problem here too ( deers and other livestock strolling across the road). The local law enforcement has taken part in preventing these type of accidents now by posting signs like this.
Seems to be working well too..

What drivetrain setup did you have? For $4400 you can get a fairly nice later 350 TPI car, at least around here.
I nailed a deer at 85 mph in my MINT 85 IROC and totalled it, still pisses me off. I loved that car. Luckily the deer I hit was small enough that the nose of my car hit the shoulders straight on and launched the deer forward up and over my car instead of just clipping the legs and rolling it up at me like the one you hit. Thank *** it was that small or I think I might have been f*cked in a bad way with how fast I was going...

here's a quick Q for all you people in deer and game country : do those deer avoidance whistlers actually work ? i've heard about them but i'm wondering how effective they really are ? see what i'm talking about here
(the only big thing out here in san diego are coyotes and mule deer ... i usually shoot the coyotes before i run them over though, and that's in a truck
