Can't remove pillar post. Siliconed to windshield. HELP
I need to remove my driver's side pillar post molding to install my gauge pod. Thought it would take 5 minutes. Instead I have been on it for hours.
The post has black adhesive on it where it sits against the windshield. Looks like the windshield must have been removed and the adhesive for the windshield contacted the post molding.
I have run a knife up and down the edge, but I can't get in deep due to clearance problems. I tried working a wire into the top and using it as a saw. Only cutting into the molding and not getting deep enough to the edge of the molding.
I've already made the holes for the pod into the post molding so it needs to come off.
Think I am just going to have to hack it up and take it out in pieces.
Then maybe just get the Lotec full post pod.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Silicone is usually malleable (unless it's real old, in which case it gets brittle) so if you can get the knife in at either the top or bottom, you should be able to start with a slit and slowly peel the pillar off. Just be careful not to bend the pillar or end up with stress marks.
You can also go to any hardware store and pick up a tool that will allow you clearance to cut the silicone. A lot of pick tools are bent at the end for just such a purpose. Talk to someone working there, they'll point you in the right direction.

Actualy, I just removed it. In several pieces though!
I realized that the only way to remove it was to be able to cut away the silicone from the underside of the molding.
So I used my rotary tool to cut the molding down the middle. Broke off the section and was able to cut away at the silicone.
Got it all removed now.
Anyone got a black driver's side pillar post molding for sale????
