Hood problems

Ok, so my hood was suffering from the old "falls on your head" syndrome, so while perusing Ebay, I found a set of hood hinges, complete with struts, which I was able to snag for $22.50 plus shipping, which was cheaper than anywhere else I've found them. When they arrived, I was pleased to note that there was a great deal of strength in the struts, I was able to compress them only with a great deal of difficulty. However, when I removed the struts and installed them on my car, the hood still falls down!

Before I contact the auction seller and complain, is there any reason why my hinges might cause this phenomenom? The hood appears to open and close fine with no catches, it just won't stay up.

Your gonna have to get new struts. I replaced mine a while back. After I took the old ones out I tried to compress the old ones and it was very hard to do. I was suprised with that much tension left in them they could'nt hold the hood up.

if you have the hinges in right, i presume you do because the hood opens and closes good, then its still the struts.

once you pop the hood and put it all the way up the struts should keep them up if not the struts are bad.

jcwhitney has a thing that you mount to the strut which folds out of the way and mounts to the shut on the hood and you just stand it up and put it below the black part. They are pretty cheap, not as easy as just put it up and it stays but they don't fail as easily either. I am going to get new structs and one of the support stands, that away I can use it when Im doing alot of work just incase. I can't find my cat but its in the general cat if I find my book ill post the part number.

Well, I took the struts off the hinges, and installed them on my hinges, which afaik are factory installed, and have always worked fine. In fact when I first got the car 2-3 years ago, the hood stayed up under it's own struts still. So I have to conclude that the new struts were shot. I'll have to contact the guy and see if he's willing to compromise on something. I hate to give anyone bad feedback.
