3rd gen euro taillights(sketches)
well guys i finally got a chance today to sit down and do a real quick sketch of what a euro type tail light hook up would be like, and soon i will measure and look at home depot and see whats available in the line of materials and such. pretty soon i'll get to work on the part's car's tail lights, see if i can make something that is show quality or not. If i can, would anyone be interested in buying some? might start a small bussiness out of my backyard doing stuff like this. well, excuse the sloppiness of the drawing, did it real quick, but i think it's decent. also, i may draw some things up for a camaro if i have the time.

formula305fi, glad to see someone likes them. how much would you consider paying for a set? just wondering what would seem fair. took a look, seems like it will be pretty tedious. as for you 1991teal, yes, they look kinda ***** HERE. in the actual picture you can see that it's not all white, the back tail light insides will be shiny mettalic colored of the designated area, for instance, the blinker area will be a shiny annodized-look orange.

The idea has floated around for a long time, and I've seen a few difference idea/chop jobs, etc. but as far as I know nobody actually makes them. Since I've already dumped $60 into a set of blackouts I doubt I'd get a pair, but I might think about it otherwise. They could look either really good or really bad, depending how they're done. If you take a look around, some just look so much better than others.

belive me, these will NOT make your car look like a grocery getter, or a honda. euro tail lights is just the only thing i can think of to describe it, but they will be unique, and very tastefull, especially once my glass etching kit arrives

Today I saw a newer GMC Sierra (full size p/up) with the Mercedes symbol and SL500 on the tailgate.

It kinda looks like one of those old Civic hatchbacks... early 80s or something... with a bunch of Mustang pieces. Who knows; I could be wrong. Maybe there's a blazing Jap 4 cylinder in a Mustang body. Hahahaha!
Here's my idea for clear tail lights. I think this would work out great...
A while back, someone posted this picture of a Corvette taillight conversion. This conversion looks great, and I think all it needs is a clear lens over the kit in the OEM lens position. THAT I would buy.
If you want to figure out how much it would cost, determine how much materials are first. Build one for your car and take note of how long it took and what problems you ran into, so you can avoid them in the future. Figure an hourly rate and shipping... that would be your cost. Take a look around the internet and see how much other taillight conversions for other cars cost, and make a best assumption on what you want to charge people.
Good luck, it would be nice to see a little variety in the taillights of 3rd gens.

Car: too many ...
Redarrow, was the truck red? Did you see the front? I know a guy in the sport truck community that is trying to make his own Mercedes Truck and sell it to Mercedes. The truck is red and its built off the Ford F150 platform .. but with the Mercedes SUV front end and taillights. The truck is actually pretty sweet.
Or it could have been some yahoo with a stock Sierra that stole someone's Mercedes symbols ...

I posted asking about clear lights awhile back and got nothing but flack about it. Don't inquire on gmforum they got downright nasty about it. Ther isn't a single thing "rice" about my 89 Ram Air Formula 350. I just don't want it to look like every other Formula out there. Get them done and post a pic, I sure would be interested!

Hrm. They may look somewhat corvette-ish if done like I'm picturing. I don't know, I'd certainly be interested in seeing a set. I really don't care for the stock lights back there, and blackouts not only dim the lights, but are a major theft target, and I'm pissed off enough about the $20 a pop it seems I have to pay to replace the black center cap on my '82-'87 rims everytime I loose one.

Our local law enforcement have a boner for people with blackouts on their lights besides it has been done to death around here. I want something new. Besides no one ever screams rice when they are put on a new F-150 or Chevy pick-up. Yet you talk about putting them on one of our cars and you get crap. I agree with Sofa King "f**k em, it's my ride!" You don't like it don't look at it!

clears
more power to you for trying something new, i really wasnt trying to put u down or step on ur idea, seeing them might even change my mind, but when i think of clears i think of j@p crap, i agree that third gen brake lights arnt the best looking things out there, but why clears why not led, i wanna look into filling in stock brake lights, leaving the third brake light , and molding leds into the bumper cover, then i dont think anyone whould ever get confused for a honda

I agree anything to be different. There are so many ways to make a sport compact car different than anything else. I'm not promoting or dissing any body who wants to take a stock manufactured car and mod it. I think that taking what the car companies have made and making it your own is the only way to go. I have seen vehicles on here that I don't even remotely like. But then again I see cars on here that I just fall in love with. Around here in Midwest Iowa there is only two cars in my 10,000 person town with Altezza lights on them. If I lived in a town where ricers were more prominant I probably wouldn't be interested either. I'm just looking to be different. I would love to have LED as well in fact I would prefer it. But $ flow prevents me from shaving all of my rear lights and molding them all in with LED's instead. I think that would be kick a$$! So right now if someone is going to make clear lights if they look good I will consider getting them. If they don't then I keep filling my piggy bank to shave my lights and do LED's like you were saying!

well tomarrow i buy a digital camera. so i'll be doing it and documenting it. and i want to realllly emphasize the point that these will probably not turn out looking like tail lights that apc or anyone else makes, at least it is not in my intentions to do so. i kind of screwed myself by saying "euro" but thats all i could think of to describe it. i think this idea has the potential to be really a neat mad, and who knows, it could be the big break into the automotive custom and design industry, hehhee won' t the haters love that. i will keep you all posted when i find the time/right materials to do this. the camaro ones may be a bit tricky compared to the firebird's, but we will see. first the 83 bird part's car lights. then i may make them to order all in a matter of time. keep an eye out for my venture into custom fiberglass as well. ya never know, in this mind, anything may happen.(hehe note in the sig, top secret nose job, hehehe)

Damnit, someone had same idea as me of putting corvette taillights on a 3rd gen. After I got it running, that was gonna be my next project. Atleast I got to see what it would look like before hand

Ok, so far we have corvette style and a clear lense corvette hybrid thing and we've mentioned the led thing. Here's one for you guys to mull over ever see the couger tails from the late 60's? They had a unique setup to be sure! Sequential tail lights! Now, picture a 3rd gen with sequential tails LED either corvette style, clear lense or how about..... chevy bowties! Now that would be rad, anyone have ideas on how to do it or where to get the stuff?

heleric, the camaro tails i was gonna make (but i don't wanna steal iroc2nv's shiznat) were going to have bowties etched into the clear, so that on braking or signaling your turn, it won't just be a light or led, but a glowing bowtie. neat idea eh? heh, wait to see the load you drop when the firechickens are glowin in there.

Sequential Corvette/clear lens hybrid with bowties etched into the 'vette lights under the clear lenses!
I think APC makes a sequential taillight wiring kit...

brake lights
well i thoght of an easy due to what helirc
said , get some sheetmetal bend and cut to cover all existing brake lights, using the original lights as an advantage , cut whatever kina design into the sheet metel then prim and paint metal, what iplain on doing is exactly thatas for a design to be cut into the metal, it might two or three, half inch tall lines one on top of the other === === something along that line, or preteng that '@' represents a bird or a bowtie
=@= =@=, there we go resonable easy , should look bad @ss
