Opinions on body mods... artwork inside

Well, I was lookin' at Revlimit's custom cut nose on his Camaro and started to like it... So I decided to see what a similar look on my 87 Trans Am would look like. (Since my current nose is trashed beyond repair thanks to a recent accident.) However, unfortunately, I don't have photoshop. So I drew this in pencil, and, yes, I know it's not the most proportional rendition in the world, but you get the idea.

I added slices in on the side of the middle hack (to better integrate the central vent) and then as an afterthought added the mesh cutouts on the front fender and rear quarter near the turn signals... you can't see the rear one very well; I better draw another view. (Then you guys can get a better view of my idea for a homemade GT-style wing.) You can also see that I added another turn signal lamp underneath the existing ones ala a 2nd gen. I've always thought it looked like something was missing there. Okay, enough describing what you can already see...

Lemme know whatcha think? *****? Racey? Tacky? Oh, and I haven't given up my yearning to paint it with flames, but I thought the picture was busy enough with the body mods...

Nice concept but in the real world execution usually isn't as good as was originally planned.
I like the concept.

I think it looks great!! Go for it!! Just be aware that modding your car like that seems to put you on alot of peoples '***** enemy list' or something so alot of them will talk trash. I say if you like the look then ignore what they say and do what you want. I think it looks good.

I like the wing if you get one like that. Rolling the steel around the mesh to make it look good is going to be tough, unless you can make really smoothe transitions with glass. Just make everything the same color and it won't get *****. Also cutting on that eurathane and smoothing it is going to be a trick too.

anyone think we are getting out of hand? i don't think so, but thats what people tell me. "a 4th gen front fascia on a third gen? it's not worth the time", or "it looks good enough like it is" i hate that. i say, buy fiberglass in epoxy in bulk and get goin on your dream car. who cares how long it takes? who cares how hard it is. just because it's hard doesn't make it impossible. and we'll reap the benefits of best of show awards while they say, damn, that looks nice. oh well, i felt like being a motivational speaker today, and i want to do the 4th gen nose thing incase you can't tell, lol. good luck and don't let people with no imagination stop you. wait for the clear tail lights post to come up when i finalize the sketches, i think you'd appreciate it.

Yeah, I'm all for building the dream car, my way! In my opinion there isn't a perfect looking car out there for sale (unless you count a $250K Lamborghini or Ferrari ) so you have to build it yourself! I no longer care about what others think; I want it to look different and be a creative product of my imagination. Take Redraif's car, for example. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's what she wanted, and it's her car... Okay, I'm done now. I'm glad you guys like the concept; I'll build her.... one day!
Later,
Chris
P.S.
I wanna make the wing out of aluminum sheetmetal. I can't find a wing I like that's the right size... any more constructive criticism?

that is an awsome drawing

would never do it to my car though

wing is out of the qustion

the center "V" section is raised to much for stock, but if it was really "jongblowed" like that, that would be awsome...

the vents in the front are a good thought

i like how the fenders and quarters seem to buble out like the "turbo Iroc" body kit

the wing is out of the question you say??? i kinda like it, but i think i know why your thinking that stuart. in the picture, it kinda looks like the wing of a ricemobile. but i looked a bit further, and the wing isn't really high, it would look sweet mounted real low on the rear deck. it's just the sides that make it look a tad *****. but, good luck, i'm going to defend this guys design from the world, LOL

The body mods are GREAT.........would love to see some more pictures if you have some free time to draw.....

Don't make the wing out of sheet metal........buy one......What color is the car going to be? A aluminum wing will look WAY OUT OF PLACE on a different color car....(just look at the picture below....)

the wings too bulky, no matter how low you put it. The sig above is just terible looking. I'm not calling the "R" word, but to me its out of place...

Well, I was thinkin' of making it out of aluminum, but I was gonna paint it black to match the gfx... bare aluminum wings are *****, I agree. As far as the side pieces being too big, yeah, I drew 'em kinda big in the pic, but I'd go smaller in real life; I just wanted to show you guys the shape I wanted to make... Also, the wheels in pic are hard to see, but they're Weld "flame" wheels (three dual spokes with the trailing spoke having a flame coming off of it), 17x9, of course... I didn't mean to make the fenders flared, though. Oh, and I had an idea about cutting the urethane: Has anyone seen NoSaint's website and his exhaust tip cutouts on the rear bumper? He used some sort of rubber lining to edge the raw cut and give it a complete look. That's a good idea, right?
Later,
Chris

I dont like the wing, never have liked aluminum wings. Plus have the wings I see dont actually function, their all looks. But I love that front clip, has the corvette summer clip look to it. For a wing I would go with that one that third gens went with in the last few years that are like 6-9 inches tall. Got fiberglass, and rubber bumper repair ready, set, goooo..................

I like racey GT-style wings, so sue me! The C5R has one and so do the GTR Vipers... always liked 'em. Since then, the ricers put on exaggerated versions that were tacky (especially on civics and the like) and given 'em a bad name... Here's a rear view for those who requested it, but I did it kinda fast and I'm not as proud of it as the front... (plus I didn't mod the rear bumper; any ideas to make it match the front?). I think the wing looks better in this pic, tho...

Yeah, we're the creative team on thirdgen, hehe. Add redraif to that list, tho... Hey, Skyline GTR tail lights?! What do those look like? I've seen a Skyline (well, a pic, anyway) and isn't it just a souped up Nissan 240sx? How do those tail lights fit in a camaro, I'm totally confused... and intrigued!

I was thinking about some "black chrome" Euro tailights for my car (the kind with three circlular lights on either side). They don't sell a kit for thirdgens, but they do have 'em for 80s Mustangs so I was thinkin' of adapting them to fit the T/A... maybe I shoulda put that in the rearview pic. Hmmm.

Ya know what.. ok.. altezza's fine.. hell a ***** nose, and wing... more power to ya. You don't touch the Skyline though. Godzilla deserves more respect than that. The Skyline GTR33 and 34 ( 32 is kewl also) are among the few imports that I would bow before and be humbled in its presence. Some things are better left alone. I love my third gen, but.. their is a limit to all things.

A Skyline is a completely different beast than the 240sx. Up untill last year they were not avaliable in the US. Check out this site for info, history, and pics: http://www.aerovec.com/page.php?page=10

And the lights wont fitv ery easily. Revlimit is going to do a custom bodymod just like his front. I think its going to be dope!! The lights you are looking for are sold by APC. They are the 87-92 mustang carbon fiber Altezzas. I wanted to put them on my stang untill I saw it in person. A guy around here with an orange 93 stang has the euro Altezzas and it just looks whacky :/ The lights are too big ...

Wow, unforgiven's approval? Man, I must be good! How's the t-top rack coming, Mike? I'm too cheap to buy one from you, but I'm gonna make one myself (a simpler design with just ridges on the floor to grip the glass and holes drilled in the top to lock the tops in).

Hmmm, I see what you mean. The cheap conversion I saw in Sport Compact Car was not as thorough as I thought (they just used the stock 240sx tail lights, but it still looked good). I can't wait to see Revlimit's tail lights when they get done.

Hey, guys, right now, I'm being pressured to sell my POS T/A even though I could fix the damage; it's not major. However, the rest of the car is also in pretty bad shape (160k miles on original LG4, ouch!) and I'd hafta rebuild it from scratch, pretty much (again, not bad, but a whole lotta time (and money) for a student).

So I'll probably be in the market for a 350tpi T/A pretty soon to replace this one. Then I'm gonna do the mods, give it to my little bro to paint green (his choice) and drive to high school when I buy my project thirdgen 'Vette which I'll equip with Vortec heads and tpi (Carcraft made 440hp on a Vortec 350 w/a carb).

Good plan? I'll still get to drive the Trans Am when I feel like it, but my parents say I need something that'll actually give me a return on the money I put into it (build a Vette for $5K and you can get twice that when you sell it, build a Firebird or Camaro for the same and you only get $3K back, tops... not that I'd want to sell it ever, but you know how parents think: "Oh, you'll get tired of it, eventually!" Right...
Later,
Chris

( sticks up out of the hood almost ten inches!!) No wing at all. I allready have all of the parts. The motor is ready. I just need time and space to put it all together!!! I like like the pictures. Build it, you'll love it. Take your frickin time on it too. DO NOT GET IN A HURRY!!!

As long as it doesn't end up lookin' like your avatar...

What do you guys think of the new Celica GT-S with 180hp, by the way? I think it's a cool lookin' car. Has two cams too, one for performance when you mash the pedal and one for economy when your just puttin' around. It's called the VVTL for Variable Valve Timing and Lift. I'm thinkin' about gettin' one as a fun daily driver...

i was actually thinking about taking the early mustang euro tailights and adapting them to my roc...i am not that good at fabricating things so i took the suggestion to a guy i know who does stuff like that around here...he said he could do it for about $1200 canadian..something to look forward to maybe..

you are an awesome artiste(in a french accent) and i think that your car would be the "nv" (hehe) of all the people in your town...do it up man...make sure you post pics though!!

slicks and chicks...make those tailights so i can buy them off you maybe..(unless i get the stang ones)...i cant find a single 3rd gen in ANY of the junk yards round here...im thinking im giving up...(without even starting)

Pretty funny, mult68...

Thanks for the compliments, NV. Can't wait to see the tail lights, man. Post some pics when you get it done. I'll have to post some pics of my other idea, a modern thirdgen Knight Rider... Then I'll have to decide which one to build

Later,
Chris

Sorry it took me so long to get here and check out the drawings Chris. Pretty cool, I must say. I guess since Rev, Iroc2nv, and FLYNLOW92rs came along, my status as public enemy #1 has dwindled here on thirdgen. Don't forget to add Scaffiels car to that list of must sees. Keep on modding!
