whoever says putting a 4th gen dash in is hard...
hasnt done it. maybe it will be tad harder if you have ac to mess with, but im running the ac delete pulley and ive got the dash mock fitted up up in the car within 30-40 minutes. i had to bang down the side supports welded to the firewall because it interfered with the newer camaro dash vents, dont know if that would be an issue on the bird dash. the rest of the supports you just have to drill small holes in the firewall lip underneath the windshield and attach the mounting screws and your 90% done. pics on the way...

throw me some comments, lemme know what you think. personally i think it looks a billion times better than the original dash with its protruding airplane wing.

its just a gt steering wheel, the black paint was flaking so i sanded it down, primed it and painted it black and yellow. and then cleared it.

took the 4th gen wiring that plugs into the cluster and spliced them in per the wiring diagrams of a 4th gen haynes and a 3rd gen haynes. tranny is a t56 with a dakota digital conversion box. tach is just one wire, a white one that needs to be spliced. gas gauge is a pink one. SES light is either tan or brown with a white stripe, would have to look. coolant temp is green with white stripe. ground and power are their normal colors. speedo was ground and signal into the cluster (cant recall that color wire at the moment, will look up)
edit: something is making me think it was purple...
heres a pic of the connector to the 4th gen gauges.

Very nice indeed... I was thinking of the same since my dash is all cracked and such... Perhaps a few pointers? I could most likely get the 4th gen dash this weekend..
Is the rest of your interior 4th Gen, or 3rd? I'm wondering how it would look half and half...

Is there any way you can take pics of all the mounting points and explain in detail what you had to do for each one? This would make a great tech article if you had a lot of pics. Where did you mount the ECM? I cant wait to do this swap!!

if you want help when your doing the swap email me and ask me questions, but i dont think im gonna take the dash off to take pictures now because its already on now. its pretty simple to understand when explained though (atleast it should be) as for the rest of my interior, i have 4th gen t/a leather seats and a 4th gen camaro console, so im all 4th gen interior. i am putting the ecm in the glove box i guess, unless i design some custom mount. i have to custom mount the ALDL. but all in all its 100% worth it all the way.

actually, that looks pretty impressive, except i would have to have the 155 speedo from a Z.
is your dash from a camaro, or firebird, and are they identical?
that is pretty sweet, i'd like to get a detailed write up about it

Oh yeah, try swapping a 4th gen 97+ automatic console in a 3rd gen automatic. thought so. Can't be done. I tried it and I completely shat myself because I found the hard way that it can't be done. EVEN with a 4th gen shifter.

:hail: You are the man Well, almost...until you get the airbags to be functional That would make you the man
I want in on this swap.... if i find a 4th gen dash locally i think i just might have to attempt it. Oh, and I want to keep the A/C too so I guess i'd have a few more hurdles to jump.

So, what would the rest of you do if you didn't want to attempt a Door Panel swap? Also, look at the relationship of the depth of the steering column to the edge of the dash - doesn't appear short at all too me Kandied.... that might simply be perspective though?

forget 4th gen door panels, you have to cut them up so bad its not even worth it. you have to cut off part of the speaker mount in the door panel so that would be useless. im just getting kickpanels set up for 5.25s and getting my door panels redone in black leather somehow. i gotta figure out a good way to permenantly mount the window switches

I didn't have to cut them up like I did, I just didn't want to move the door handle at the time. It needs to be moved back about 3 inches or so.
