trans am -> GTA fender swap possible ?

i have an 89 GTA and i really like the fender air extractor available on trans ams but it wasn't available on GTAs ... would it be possible to buy those fenders and still have my nose/doors/hood line up ok ? would i lose the flared fender effect that they have now ?

i did do some research, i looked at hawk's (thirdgenparts.com) and they offer

a 91-92 fender that's also for the 87-90 GTA

or

a 85-90 fender that says nothing about the GTA

the dillema is that GTA is a TransAm GTA .... so shouldn't it fit the car's lines ok ?

pls help me :hail:

Yep, it's a direct swap from GTA fenders to TA fenders.... HTH!

Although most folks now will think about your car being a GTA, but if you like it then it's okie.

Just cut the holes in your fenders and put the plastic insert in.

Then be prepared for everybody and their brother to tell you that you have a fake GTA.

Yep, I was thinking that same thing, but the T/A fenders actually have a small recession lip (about 1/4"-3/8") where the vent sits in. These are there so when you put the vents on they sit level/flush with the surface and do not stick out.

You should be able to make a similar lip with a little work, although you'll probably mess up the paint doing it.

why would you wanna do that?
most people wanna go from t/a to gta, not the other way around.

i'll tell you what, sell me your gta and get yourself a regular t/a. i'll give you $100, how's that sound?

GTA is just a glorified/gfx added Formula anyways.. what makes it such a special car ? (not meant as a smart-ss remark.. more a curiousity)

What does it matter if the extractor is there or not? It's a usless appearance item anyways. The only outward appearance between the 2 (GTA & T/A) is the extractors in the fenders.
Anyways, I always thought the goal of owning a 'nice' car was to make one's self enjoy getting into thier own car instead of making sure others liked what you were driving.. maybe that's just me tho...

Jim, while I agree about your approach, not everyone has access to a flare tool like you or wants to buy one or do the work just for a flare. Not everyone who has access or the tool has the skill either.

OMG like everyone hates me now!

ummm why would i want to do the TA fenders switch ?

i got a GTA 9 weeks ago bc it was and still is my dream car and i completely <3 my car but there are a few things that i want to do to it to truly make it my own.

in honesty my GTA was untouchably cool when brand new but now mine needs some pretty-work, and among that work is adding flush door handles, shaving antenna, new carpet, audio system, 4th gen interior, t56 trans .... and yes those fenders too

this is my first car, i got a 1989 GTA with a 10K mile old bored, stroked and cammed 350 plus 20K mile old 700r4 with corvette servos for 3K bc the PO went bankrupt on it, it needed paint since the orig. van nuys is flaking like a chocolate donut, the headliner may as well be a hairnet, and it has yet to pass smog here in CA ( which by the end of the week it will - edelbrock TES headers and CA smog laws don't get along hehe)

anyway this car is, like, my everything, so pls don't flame me for what i'm doing to my car ... it's my car and i'm doing what i like and makes me happy - deadbird, zepher, jim85iroc, nosaint - among others - have all been a tremendous help to me as far as ideas for modifications and support. this site has made me proud to own this ugly duckilng GTA and now i eat breathe and sleep thirdgen f-body - trust me, i know the score
