I thought all the thirdgens were made in Norwalk, Ohio and Van Nuys, California.

Thats Norwood, OH. And yes they were. It might be a Z49 optioned Canadian car though. Some of the Canadian cars I've seen do have strange option combinations.

As far as the dash is concerned, it looks just llike my old one...It cracked and has been replaced. The doors are identical to mine as well so I'm assuming they're no biggie. The orange is strange...hmmmm....sure it hasn't been painted?

oh and by the way, WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE RAMPS? those are awesome....I must buy some!!!!!

My 87 has all those options except the paint and louvers. I was told it had the louvers from the factory but someone took them off.

I don't see any rare options on that car.

Same dash every camaro got. Same Bose that thousands of thirdgens got. The color is the only rarity.

too bad, no t tops. my car rolled off the line with a sweet factory sound system too, but the previous owner hacked the hell out of it, installed DIN cd player (which he took out before i picked up the car) and only one sail panel still has the original woofer box, and he crammed factory speakers from a ford in there, hanging by one sccrew. the car had 6 owners before me, so i'm sure everyone toyed with it.

As for the rear locking well cover, mine has that. One thing I haven't seen on many cars is the rear windshield wiper which I have also.

it was made in canada because it has big *** canadian flags on a few body parts. the grill is raised to the point that it is no where near flat. my 89 iroc does not have the rased speaker grills on the dash cover, nor does it have those funky loking door handles. yes the paint is factory. i will try to get better pics befor the car goes out the door, it is still in the paint booth. as for the ramps, they are not ramps, it is a lift, and no you cant have one because they cost like $6,000 .

thanks

No Camaros were built in Canada until 1993. The raised speakers on the dash and the arm rests are from wear and tear on the car, they did not appear that way when the car was new.

The rarest thing is the color. medium orange, only 3,010 total camaros made. Only available in 1988.

Check the 11th digit in the VIN, I'm sure you'll find it to be "L", meaning Van Nuys CA, where all 88 Camaros were built.

If it's not please post pics.

well, i can tell you now that the raised speaker grills on the dash are not from wear, they are ment to be that way, and thedash is in really really good shape. as for it being made in canada, i can tell you that it has canadian flag decals under the horn button, an under the dash on the back side above the ac vent control head. the car was suppose to be picked up today but i will see about getting the vin off of it tomorrow.

thanks

It wasn't made in Canada. No thirdgens were. Maybe the Canadian exports got different tags on the car when it was assembled. Those door handles are the same that every IROC has. The arm rest design changed, and that 88 has the newer style that all newer Camaros got. Your 89 should have those too, unless maybe that arm rest design came as part of a premium interior package and the standard interior package still got the older style arm rests. The raised speaker grills in the dash look identical to every other camaro I've seen. Maybe I need to see a clearer pic to see what you're talking about. The pic you showed looks identical to both of my camaros. You've got a nice car with a rare color, but that's pretty much the full extent of its rarity.

I am in agreement with just about everyone on here. There is nothing rare about the car other than the fact it is in good shape and the color does raise an eyebrow. I did meet a lady yesterday at the grocery store who was the original owner of a '88 IROC in the same color scheme as the one that is in question. The quality of the camera makes it hard to tell what color it truly is. The door handles, arm rests, louvers, hatch cover, and and dash board are all very common. I wrote a tech article awhile back on restoring the armrests because mine where "butterflying" out like the ones above. Check it out and you will see what I am talking about. https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/armrest.shtml I would be interested to know what the RPO code list says about the paint. Are the door jams all the same color? If you can, pull off one of the rear plastic trim panels and see what color the over spray is.

i stand corected, the 11th vin is L, but it does have the z-49 rpo option. i dont think i will be able to get any better pics today because it was suppose to go out the door. i dont think the pics of the dash give it justice. my 89 does are not raised like the ones on this car are. also, the paint is the factory color, and yes i know that the door handles are worn, but they are a diff style that is on my 89, 87, and the 86 i plan on buying, and in case you are wondering, my 89 has the "european interior" option, and my wrecked 87 has tan custom cloth, the orange 88 's interior looks to be the same as my 89, just diff door handles, mine is just blue-gray, not tan the 88 has.
the pic i have is my 89 and you can see the style off door handles it has.
thanks
anthony

Your 89 has the more common arm rests (door handles are the little things that you use to open the door with), but the style on your 88 is not the least bit uncommon.

They are also insanely easy to change, so it's quite possible that your 89 got the older style put on to replace the newer ones. The newer ones come unglued and lift, just like the ones in your 88 did, so it's not uncommon for people to replace them with the older style.

I put one of the 9 bolt rear ends in my Z. They are an Australian made disc brake rear end and have Borg Warner stamped on them. If I am not mistaken, they were available on 88 Irocs and GTA's. They dont come with a 3:42 though, mine has a 3:45 gear and they have bigger axles and also bigger ring gear and pinions. They also have a different lock up mechanism. They are true posi units. It looks more like an enclosed spool as opposed to the clutch assembly that was on my original limited slip rearend. I have had my car jacked up before and you can not turn one wheel while holding the other, they are locked. Best $150 I have spent on my car.

to check where it was made, check the FIRST didget of the VIN, the 10'th is the city, the 1st is the Country: 1-US, 2-CANADA,

the color too, was available in 88 only, for firebird it was called "Medium Orange Metallic" #63

What is throwing me is the rear hatch deck panel. I'm not sure what you call it. I know it was very common in the 82-84s, but I have yet, till now, to see one in a newer 3rd gen. The ones I have seen all have the smaller pull down motor, and the smaller hump in the back panel. I have wanted one for my bird so I could lock up my stereo equip. in the hole, but have yet to see one that will fit at the yards. I figured they did not come on the 3rd gens with the larger hatch motor hump, but there is is. Wow.

here i think something cool was going to be on the IROC but its just got the Medium Orange Paint which is very similar to the 4th gen color "Sunset Metallic Orange" used on 01-02 f-bodies. That is the color I wan't to paint my car someday ( And yes it would look LIKE an Iroc without the decals )

Hua? All of the 82-85 thirdgens had a non-motorized latch and a smaller plastic cover. The 86+ cars got the motorized pull-down latch and a larger cover.

as far as the body color goes, it looks just like the color my car is now... but better. with the exception of the gold color on the rims.., only difference is, mine is an 87.... never been painted before.

Sorry you're right. This is why I try not to type and answer the phone at work.

I have just never seen the hatch deck cargo panel on an 86 up.

I scored one from a 89 IROC at the junkyard, took the rear panel and all, even the supports for the rear panel and the catch for the lock, (chiseled 'em out), and pop riveted 'em in mine. IIRC it had the pulldown (the newer flatter model), but the panel fits over my old one *with a little persuasion*.

that iroc is indentical to mine. mine has the bose stereo in it and the same color interior, gold package, arm rests, door handles, etc. it also has t-tops. dont know about the dash. havent payed much attention to it. mine is an 89 but it was built in sept. of 88. are you sure that it is orange. mine is called flame red metallic and its the original color. mine also has the rear window louvers that are not on the car right now but they will be soon. you can see pics of my car with the link in my sig. will be updating pics soon cause i have done alot of changes to it like taking the stereo out of it and putting the original bose back in, and putting the exhaust manifolds back on, plus other things. mine was also built in van nuys ca.

Yeah, it is definately a factory color. My buddy with a bare bones 88 iroc has that same color. His has no power windows, 15" iroc rims, and a 305 TBI. BUT it has T-tops, a third brake light in the spoiler, and only 29,000 miles on the clock. That car is mint...

no IROCs came with 15s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both styles were 16x8s

Why does everyone think that (boneyards and such) think the regular z28 rims are IROCs ??? Ive spoken/ saw several people saying they had IROC wheels, and I go look and there the 15s ??????

i think he meant iroc style 15" rims. i see that style of rim every once in awhile. if you mean 15" rally style, one of my friends had an 88 iroc with those rims from the factory. the rims in the first or second post look like they are 15". the tires look tall to be a 16" tire.

You're wrong. In 88, 15" wheels were standard on the IROC. They looked just like the previous Z28 wheels except that they didn't have the machined surface on the spokes. Very few IROCs came with those wheels. In 89-90, 15" wheels were still standard, but they looked just like the 16" counterparts. Still pretty rare, but they're definately out there. I have a friend with a bone stock 16,000 mile 89 with the stock 15" wheels.

Being from Canada I can tell you the only difference is the fact that my km/h number are on the outter edge of the speedo and the mph ones are on the inside. thats it. Ive never seen these Canadian flags you guys speak of, but if I do I will besure to let you know

I never knew that, thanks jim for correcting me

People always say they have IROCs but they are 15" rallies (aka z28 wheels) I would have never known that they had the IROC style in 15s stock, i am glad i was wrong now, or else i would have never known

Well, most people still incorrectly refer to all 15" wheels as "IROC" wheels, which is incorrect. The z28-style 15" wheel was only on the IROC for 1 year, and only 6,008 IROCs came that way. In 89-90 I think they were a little more common (I'm too lazy to go count the numbers for those 2 years) but those wheels were easier to identify because they looked identical to the 16" counterparts.

Yeah, they look exactly like the IROC 16", but they are 15's.

And, it might be an 89, but it has the third brake light in the spoiler, and I thought that those were only available in 88
