Crap car...but decent wheels...Should I?????

There's a crap '83 or so Firebird outside the Auto Tech. building at my school. No engine, windsheild and hatch are the ony good glass. But I don't need anything from it. I does have a decent pair of....'Bullitt-lookin' rims on it. Torque Thrusts?? Anyway, the teacher won't part it out, he said he would sell the whole car to me for $500. It's not worth it, IMO. The wheels are the ONLY thing good on it. Anyway, my question: Should I get he car just for the wheels, and put my deep-dish TA rims on it and sell it to the junkyard? Do you think it would be worth the hassle? Any suggestion would be appreciated. School doesn't start 'till mid August, but I was just thinkin'. Thanks, Matt S.

If they are Torque Thrust IIs and they are in good shape, I would. And I'd keep your old rims for winter driving and give the rest to the junkyard. Some people on here might also wanna buy parts from it from you.

Hey thanks for the quick post. Should I give him the $500, or take, say, $350 and offer it to him on the spot? I mean, with the towing and all the hassles I don't think it would be worth it. Any suggestions? The tires suck on it, but the back rims are pretty wide. Thanks, Matt S.

Well TTIIs are worth about $250/piece or more. So thats a grand right there if they are TTIIs. I'd say offer $350... he may not even know about the rims and just take it.

yeah, I was actually seriously considering that! I'm not that way, though. And it would look kinda suspicious with those rims on my car in the school parking lot and my old ones on the crap car! hehe Also, how much are my stock rims? Thanks, Matt S.

I didn't mean steal the rims... I meant offer him $350 and he might take that offer because he doesn't know what the rims are worth. What condition are your stock rims in?

just remember if the car dosen't have a title you won't be able to scrap it easily. If the guy is being a total dick i'd take the wheels, put donuts on it and tape a 100 dollar bill to the windsheild. lol, so it's not realistic. but hey, what are ya gonna do?

Yeah, I didn't think about the title. If he doesn't have the title, I wouldn't buy it cause it'll be harder to get rid of. If he does, offer him $350. If he takes it, great. Buy the car, take the rims and whatever else you might be able to sell and sell it to the yard. If he doesn't take it, give him the $500 he wants. What shape are the TTIIs in? If they are mint, they are worth at least double the $500.

I'll save up my money. Till school starts, in mid August. Also, I checked out the car today. The rims are in pretty crappy shape, but I think with a little cleaning, and new center caps, they are missing, they'll look good. Also, I got the sizes on the tires. Could you tell me what they mean?
Front: P215/75R15
Rear: P215/75R15
I don't intend on keeping the tires that are on the rims now.....they're bald!!!!!!!!!! Thanks,

They are only 15 inch rims. I don't think TTIIs come in 15", anyone know for sure? 215 is the width of the tire in mm I think, and 75 is the sidewall height. The 15 is the rim diameter. Example- my rims are 16" stock IROC rims. I have 245/50/R16 tires. They are wider, with a shorter sidewall. I think I covered it pretty well.

Weird, I have the same perdicament. A guy that lives down the road has a 87 Firebird with some decent wheels, The cars body is straight and all I can use is the wheels and thats it because it is a 2.8 and I have a 5.0. The interior looks like Godzilla's playpen but he wants about 200 for it so I dunno what I am gonna do. If I get the car and anyone need s a 2.8 Firebird let me know.

It just depends on how bad you want the wheels off that car. $500 for a used set or more for a new set

Yeah the rims are somewhat rusted, but I think it's ust surface rust and it's mostly around the center. But how hard is it to clean rust off rims? So, say I could just get the rims, how much would you say the most I should pay for them is? Also, I'll try to ask the guy if I could just switch rims. Thanks Also, good luck with your predicament Stinger.

hey i have a 2.8 parts car, and for awhile i started to think it was a mistake to take it. it was free, no title, (title thing is a prob). Also, i asked around here and found out, take the VIN number of the titleless car to the police station, tell them what you want to do, and ask if it's stolen. If they say no, then take it. I also found out how to get rid of it, the volunteer firemen said they would take it and use it for a practice burn. Also, i looked on ebay, people are getting decent money for parts like t tops, etc. Good luck guys

Is the car really that bad? There's nothing else you could sell off of it? Fender, carburetor, alternator, the whole rear quarter panel (dont' cut into the gas tank), gauges, rear axle, trans, computer?

Hey, is it a Z28 or Trans Am? It might have a 3.73/posi/disc rear axle under it...

It's either a Trans Am or a Firebird. Not sure. But I think some of the fenders are is fair condition. You could tell the guy took off the GFX, cuz the fenders atill have holes in them. I guess that makes it a TA then? There's no engine in it. The hood is an aftermarket one with a bulge in the center back towards the windsheild. Not a cowl one though. Or the power bulge one either. The hatch is in fair condition. I plan on switching out my tailights with his, so it'll have 'good, '88 TA tailights. Thanks,

Those wheels don't sound too good, plus they're only 15 x 7 and stock on a lot of our cars were 16 x 8. I'd just leave it as his problem. Finding Formula or crosslace wheels isn't that hard.

Metallicamaro is almost right. The 215 is the width of the tires, but the description of the next number is in a way incorrect. It is referring to the sidewall height, but its actually an aspect ratio. That 75 is actually a percentage of the width that is the height of the sidewall. So basically that sidewall is 75% of 215...which im too lazy to figure right now. But newho..so if you had say a set of 215/60/15's , they'd be lower profile tires, w/the side wall 60% of the width. And im 99% sure that TTII's do come in 15x7. how do you know this you ask?..i work at sears and i look for rims for my car when im bored
