trunk lock
I bought a 91 Camaro RS (thank *** it had the V8 option) and the trunk lock gear is striped. You know that whiter gear that pulls the hatch back down against the body of the car. I need to know the part number or serial number so I can possibly buy it new. I have been to several junk yards with no luck and if they do have it it is the whole assembly. I only need the white gear. Any help would be appreciated.

The item you are looking for is called a gearnut. P/N 20160587. Just a FYI, I stock the 3 parts that most frequently break on the 86-91 hatch pull-down units. 1) Nylon guides. I machine these from solid nylon. They are a direct drop-in replacement and much stronger than the OEM version. 2) reinforced motor housings. This is the plastic part that the motor attached to and the gearnut resides in. These commonly break where the 3 screws mount it to the frame. I reinforce this area with 4 pieces of aluminum and epoxy. 3) The gearnut. If the motor housing or guides are broken it will cause the unit ot be out of alignment and shred the teeth of the gearnut. Symptoms of a broken gearnut are, the motor continues to run, but will not move the latch portion up and down. GM didn't even assign a p/n for the guides. Prior to my manufacturing them the only other way to get replacements was to purchase an entire pull-down unit. E-mail me for a Price List if you are interested in any of these items. Lon
