What about this?

Okay, we can go back and forth about the "*****/non-*****" thing forever. But one person posted a while back (in a rice post) that it was ridiculous to try to make your car look fast when it isn't. Well now, that brings up my car. First off, it is an 89 RS with a 2.8L in it. Yeah, slow and I know it. Well, I just put in grid taillights and have a hood in TX for it. It is a hood from an IROC with the louvers. Also have a bowtie grill and foglights in it. There is nothing on it that says anything but RS for emblems. No 2.8 thingy on the rear bumper or anything like that. So the question is: Is putting the grid lights and IROC hood on my 2.8 a bad thing? I think it really improves the look from the "flat" hood and FUGLY taillights. Well, I am curious to see what all of the "purists" think of this approach. I am modding my car around the engine with suspension first. I plan to leave the engine basically stock. How fast can you make a 2.8 go without passing the ridiculous limit when you should just replace it with an 8? SInce it's a 6, I will leave it a 6.

It's YOUR car, do what YOU want with it! Don't worry about what other folks think. Unless you go to the race track (or do really stupid things like street racing...), having a 12 second quarter mile car is a waste of time and money.
My car has the misunderstood Crossfire engine in it, but that's OK because I don't plan on racing it, just gonna cruise around the city streets and Route 66!

I think thats fine. I have a Iroc Grill on my car and the grid Tail lights. I dont think think or act like it is an IROC. Those grid tail lights came on RSes too in 91-92 so dont worry about it. I find it a problems when you tottttallllly make the car look like an iroc or TA or whut ever right down to the bages. That is when i say no no. But for whut your doing and how you say you drive...go for it.

As long as you don't put IROC stickers on it and claim its an IROC, you're fine.

I have seen this kind of stuff before, and in my opinion if you want to put the IROC stuff on it, and put the IROC decals on it you may, after all, I as well as thousands of other military have fought and died for your right to do whatever you want to. The choice is yours. You could paint it purple and put barney stickers on it and I would not care. If you like the IROC body style, and like the decals then put them on. Its your car, don't EVER let anyone else say you can't do something you really want to. I would never let someone else dictate to me what parts I can or should put on my car, it's MINE and I'll make her look anyway I choose. I could even put the old firebird on the hood of my Camaro if I wanted to and anyone who would tell me I couldnt could Kiss my ars. Although I would personnaly not want to do that, but I could.

So to make a long story short. Put whatever you want on it, be proud of what you have accomplished, and remeber, until they start paying the bills they can keep their "You cant do that" to themself.

See, the difference between what you're doing and a rice rocket is that your car will actually look nice when it's done. Gawdy interiors, huge aluminum spoilers, garbage can mufflers, clear tail lights (sorry, I hate 'em on anything, even f-bodies), and a ton of crap hanging from the rear view make a car, any car, look just plain silly. Since your car won't sound like a weedwacker with a bullhorn when it's crawling down the street just asking for attention, then you must be doing it right.

Do your thing...

Thats kewl.. hell.. evidently I have RS tail lights on my IROC. Some folks gave me a lot of shiznit about it, I was just waiting for someone to claim that I had a badged up RS ( which I dont ), but eventually they gave in as it does not particularily matter to me at the moment. I recently had a riced 4th gen RS come up on me at a stop light flexing at me. To make a long story short I lost him in 3rd, and he followed me to the subway. (sandwiches)
He was complimenting (couldn't offer the same compliments though, altezza's on any camaro.. their should be a law against that) me on my ride etc.. and was saying that he had an 87 RS and thought I was badged up because of my tail lights. Not everyone would know the difference.. but hey.. works for me..
