Gas Cap Door Removal

The gas cap door on my car is broken off and it appears that I have to drop the tank to get the old door assembly off and install the new one. This hardly makes any sense so if someone could tell me where im going wrong, if I am, and what i really need to do that would be great. Thanks a lot.

Uhhh, it's easily removable. Something like three screws... Man, it's been a while so I can't recall exactly what you have to do. I removed mine about a dozen times while shaving the "lip" off it so I know it's easily done.

Yeah, three screws, and the spring mechanism is a little hard to wiggle out of the tight space, between the body and the filler neck, but it will come out.
