Everyone with broken seat belt latches inside....
I have a 91 RS with broken seatbelt latches and was about to go the the junck yard and pick another pair up but then I got some sort of wild hair up my *** and decided to go to my local chevy dealership and see what I could get done, I had them print a recall slip up of my car and it showed the the seatbelt latches had been recalled and that the case was still open even after 11yrs. So now im getting all new seatbelt latches put in for free! Also there was another recall that is still open, it has to do with the fule filler neck. Just thought id lett ya'll know Take care.

Glad you found the recall info. Same thing happened to me when I bought my car; the belts worked, but as soon as we got it in the garage, the driver's belt wouldn't latch. We were going to get a belt out of a junkyard, then my dad wondered how good a junkyard belt would be- so we went to the dealer. Talk about a nice surprise!

The recall is for what years? The belts in my car are in ok shape, but I wish they were in brand new condition again.
What was the problem with the latches that GM decided to do a recall anyway?

I don't know about other years but, i know for sure their were recalls for failed seatbelt latches in 91. If you find out you can get it done great! Ive had a problem down here beacause the guy behind the counter didn't want to do free work on a 10+year old car. So I had him call GM and they told him to get his a$$ in gear and replace my latches. Good luck

I'm 99% sure the recall was for 82-92 f-bodies.
How to tell if you've had the recall work done: The replacement buttons are red, and have a silver clip on one side, which holds it inside the seat belt mount.
How to tell if you need the recall work: You don't have the buttons I just mentioned, AND, your seat belt buttons are fading into a bright pink!
This "case" will be open forever, free of charge, and the reason why is that it's a "safety recall". If the car is eligible for the safety recall, it will always be done. The other recalls on the alldata page would only be free for the original owner.

I took mine into a dealer, with the specific seatbelt code for my 86'. They said it has been, "closed" and wouldn't do it.
Pretty much just told me to **** off.
Maybe i should try another dealer, if some of you have luck. he plastic has totally broken off of the driver latch, i mean totally. The spring pops in and out half of the time, and the latch doesn't work sometimes too.

i got an 86 camaro and phoned the dealership, they said the recall is still in effect i just gotta get my *** in gear and get my car there so it can be done. they just asked for my vin. The recall is for all 3rd gen camaros  , only the front latches. in my case, the pass side doesn't clip in and the buttons are pink.
edit: oh yea and they only replace defective parts so dont expect a whole new setup!

Christos, yeah, go to another dealer... but don't give them any codes. Say the state inspection told you about the recall.
Aaroedg, they also replaced my rear latches. You sure it's only the front ones? You should do the same thing- call another dealer!! I'm 99% sure that the dealers get reimbursed for labor from GM, and that they get the parts free, so you're not screwing the dealers out of any $$. It's just that most dealerships don't want to waste the time because they can't overcharge, it's gotta be free. They'd rather have their mechanics doing oil changes for $$ than changing seatbelt latches.

Hmm... Does/did this little recall affect Canada too? The seat belt latches in my car are a nice shade of pink and the passenger side latch doesn't like to release on occasion...
