160 MPH Speedo??? on a 15th Anniversery T/A

On Ebay there's a 15th Anniversery T/A with a 160mph speedometer is that factory? If that is factory I'd love to get one of those speedos.

Here's the link

i saw a 15th anniversary T/a

I saw one....guess where. In a junk yard!! I'm shocked that someone would sell an anniversary car to a salvage yard. If i had enough money I'd buy it. well not anymore....some idiots wrecked the engine....wheels and interior. some guy tried to pull the wheel off and the rotor came off with the wheel...its a shame that an anniversary car must RIP.... I'm not sure about the 160mph speedo...it might have been put in...its definitely not factory though...correct me if i'm wrong

I'm the one that bought that TA off ebay

I Picked it up on 6-14-2002 and drove it home to Salem Oregon from Fortuna California (380 miles) It has a little over 70,000 miles on it and it is a well documented car complete with window sticker and a lot of receipts. It was originally Bought New by a 63 year old grandma and in '98 she gave it to her grandson in which I bought it from. I have started to do the research on it and the 160 mph speedo is puzzling to say the least. It is the only one I have seen with that speedo It has the same needle as the tach but the numbers are a different type. The tripometer reset **** is the same as my 79 TA.
The only aftermarket thing about the car is the CD player that the grandson put in in "98. By looking through the service receipts
the miles are pretty much accounted for that show on that speedometer. Also, would a 63 year old grandmother have a 160 mph speedo put in her car? Maybe dealer installed? there are about a half a dozen RPO codes that aren't in this database. As far as RPO codes go that isn't uncommon.

Mystery Solved!!!

The 160 MPH speedo on my 15th Anniversary Trans Am was NOT factory at all. I just received an email from the grandson of the original owner. He had the dealership put it in shortly after they took delivery of the car. That would explain why the service records were in step with the odometer. He however doesn't remember where they (the dealership) got it. So the research continues.................

I did a little searching about this.

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/faq/thirdgen.shtml

If you scroll down a little to where it says
What is a MR MSE Trans Am?
If you read it it says these had a 160 mph added to them.

Here is there website.

http://www.mechamperformance.com/

If I have some spare time I'll give them a call and ask them.

Mecham MSE sales brochure

Ah Yes, good ol Dennis and Kyle Mecham; To me they are to Trans Ams as Don Yenko is to Camaros. I have a couple of DKM
items in my collection one of them being a one page sales brochure from about 1983 I believe and yes it says in a schematic type diagram that it does have a 170MPH speedo according to that. So they were available to the Mecham brothers so maybe other dealers could get thier hands on one. I think when I get some time I am going to remove mine and examine it. Mainly to look for a GM part number which I hope that what I find but you never know.
I know of one MSE Trans Am I will email him to see if he could take a picture of his speedo in his car. Is there any members out there that has a MSE Trans Am?

Thanks Frank for getting me on the right track!
