Where can I find the trunk relay ?
Does anyone know off hand where the trunk relay is located in an 87 IROC ? Im going to replace it with the hopes that it fixes my rear hatch problem. Im also hoping that it is not located within the center console as it is a bitch to take off. Anyone know? Gonna try this evening.

Right underneath the hatch switch itself. Little black box.
Wait, what do you mean a bit*h to take out. Just pull the shifter plate, and grab the relay. 5 mins. at the most.

could not locate it ??
Last night I dug into the car and could only find one relay in the hatch area next to the solenoid. It was the same relay, and I replaced it, but to no avail, it still would not pop open. Pulling up the shifter plate does not reveal a relay, atleast not an obvious one. Is their more than one of the same relay? My intent this weekend is to tear out the center console and try to locate the relay. If anyone has any further suggestions, please let me know, this is becoming rather frustrating.

Taking the console out will make replacement a breeze, though not necessary. You should be able to take off the shifter plate and reach under there and grab it, but I forget exctly where they put that sucker.
You sure the switch itself is good? Any blown fuses? You are aware that the switch only works in park right?

Alright, this is what I found in 5 mins. The shifter plate is not even all the way off, I just pulled the shifter to D, then took out the torx screws, lifted the plate up, took out the shifter plate lighting bulb socket, then turned clockwise. Reach under the switches and pull up these wires. The black box on the left is the relay. Now my car is a 86 IROC, so I dont think its going to be much different than yours.
Hope this helps.

Try'd that, it didn't work
Well, I replaced both relays.... theirs the one under the console in the picture above, and one behind the hatch panel. Neither of them did any good. So we tested continuity on each and it worked... we are inclined to believe that the problem is the release solenoid. We powered it directly to the battery and it worked only one time. Anyone know where I can get the release solenoid cheap ?
