Reinstalling Lower Hinge Spring??? HELP!!

Alright... we have EVERYTHING back in on the driver's door... new hinge pins and bushings for top and bottom hinges... but... WE CAN'T GET THAT SPRING TO GO IN!!! On the 3rdGenSolutions site it says something about a Spring Compressor...
Does anyone know how to put this spring back in any other way? How have you guys reinstalled it?
Thanks!

I just used AndyZ28's kit lastnight. I will tell you this, without that tool and a good long screwdriver, It's next to impossible to get that spring in. I had to fight it and I have the tool. Maybe Autozone has one for rent, maybe check there?

Yeah I fought mine for a couple hours before I bought the tool.

I gave about $17 for it, shipped, had it in 3 days, was WELL worth the money. Makes it simple, and I like simple. A lot!

I've used it a couple times since, it'll fit most anything GM I guess.

You might laugh at me but when I did mine I compressed the spring in my vise with a little of it sticking out the top and put a coat hanger through it and made it in a "C" shape to hold it compressed,,used 2 of these..set it in there then cut the 2 pieces out,and it was perfect.
I just tried this to see if it would work befor I went looking for the tool and got lucky.
Still not a fun job..
I would check to see if the parts store will let you barrow,,rent one first..

I also used a vise to compress it but instead of a coat hanger i used a few thick tie wraps to keep it compressed, so when I loosened the vise it broke the tie wraps and went boing shooting across the garage.. . Needless to say i now own a spring compressor.
