Color and Cluster
First, some flat white paint to the inside in order to brighten the guages.

Next, the color of your choice. Since my interior is black and silver....

James,
Did you do any pre-paint-prep to that, such as primer or sanding, or did you just take it out and spray it.
Thanks,
Jesse

I used 000 steel wool. I shot the white once, then the silver twice, using the wool between.

Hey James,
I'm going to go do that right now. Only problem is that I don't have a shiny silver. I do have a couple choices of colors, such as red, light blue, dark blue, and gunmetal grey. I spray some paper or something and see what I like.
I don't know when I can get pics up though, my parents have access to a diggy cam, but they are going to be gone until Wednesday.
Later,
Jesse

JAMES, JAMES!!!! That is sooooo cool. I just finished, well, about an hour ago.
The silver accent is subtle, but great.
I must say that anybody that wants more lighting from your dash, PAINT THE BACK WHITE!! It improved my gauge lighting by at least 175%-200% better, no joke. At night, I can see the dust on the faces, I could barely see the numbers yesterday.
I'm soooooo happy that I came across this thread.:hail: :hail: :lala: :lala:
The silver I ended up buying was not as reflective as yours James, but hey, I like it. It's kinda metallic too, so it fits well with the textured interior pieces.
Later,
Jesse
Like I said earlier, no pics until Wednesday.
GOOD WORK JAMESC.

Thanks, Jesse. As you, I like the subtle touch of color. By the way, while the white back certainly improves reflection, try MacEwen higher intensity xenon 194 bulbs, and you'll see real improvement. Post your pics when you get a chance.

Don't these guys sell the exact same bulb?

These guys also have some of the lowest prices I've seen on the aftermarket boutique bulbs:

I used w5w bulbs... they're a big improvement over stock, and about the same price as the 194's.
FYI, I also replaced any of the 194 wedge bulbs on the exterior with w5w's too, and all of my tail/brake lights with p21/5w bulbs and what a HUGE difference in brightness.

Should you decide to yank the cluster to replace bulbs and your trip odometer is broken, check the following thread for a fix:

It's a Grant Collector's Edition wheel, P/N 1140. Look in the Products tab and the Camaro button is in the horn button tab, P/N 5611:

Ed,
I purchased the higher intensity 194's from MacEwen. He used to sell white-faced guage overlays on this site. Here's the last info that I have:

I just did the same thing a few weeks ago. Its amazing how such a small detail makes the gauges look so much better. I also painted the back of that panel silver as the dash lights reflect off it to illuminate the gauges. My gauges light up much brighter now.

Gold looks really nice if have black or tan interior. But lose all the silver and white in the car to really look nice and the orange dash emblem has to go! Gold pedals, ash tray, and the orange door lock stickers replace with gold painted stickers over them for detail. Seat belt buttons if you can too. Haven't tride the belt buttons yet though. Also a Gold shift handle looks great.

Re: Color and Cluster
ok a few q's, so with the steel wool did you use it to scrape off ALL the paint or what? and with the white did you spray both sides and then silver both times twice?

Re: Color and Cluster
Use some steel wool to rough up the surface of the metal bezel. I used white on the inside of the bezel and the color of my choice, silver, on the outside. IIRC (and I may not--hey, it was 8 years ago), I shot the inside once and the silver twice, but do what looks best. You can check my vbGarage in the lower left for an updated pic if you wish.

Re: Color and Cluster
ok so i semi installed it just kinda threw it on after 2 coats of silver after the 1 coat of white. well while it looks good it really didnt make a diffrence and is more of a flat silver? is this my fault since i added the silver at first? im going leave it for now but some time im going get a bunch of steel wool (more like #3) and get all the paint off and do it good.
