Suicide Doors
I would like to know what will it take to suicide doors on a 84 Camaro, I have seen it done on a 85 but have yet to see direction and parts need to accomplished this mission.

typically it's a custom fabrication.......i have yet to see any companies that make a true "kit" for anything like what your describing..........
your best bet is to find an excellent body shop or custom "hotrod" shop and talk to them.
attend some car shows in your area and find anyone who has the work done, asking them will be your best bet. if you can do it on one car you can find a way to do it on them all.
i know there is a pic floating around with a black iroc with them......someone should post it; if not i'll try to find it for you!
good luck

I talk to a guy in S.C and he said that it would cost about $1200 and that with shaved door handles. Do that seem to be a reasonable price or what...

umm....
I am doing everything myself. I don't think it will cost alot. It will be 300 for the fiberglass doors about 50 for the hinges plus I might have to do some reinforcing for the doors with aluminun plates. I think total it will be about 500.

yeah, The only reason I am willing to do it is because the camaro is out of the action right now. Building an engine for it.
I am driving a grand prix, It is a great car.
I am going to be taking a million pics and either put up a temp site about it on my server or post a few up here.
Hey, we got the same name:lala: :lala: :lala:

about the only trouble i could see in doing this would be clearing the top of the roof/t-tops. unless theirs a way to bump the door out before they go up...

Ummm..
I don't think there would be a problem there. There is no bump when you close the door normally.
I do ahve t tops on my car. If there is a problem I would jsut leave the windows down alittle before closing the door.
I probably will not get around to everything until winter or spring.

I think that 1200 for shaved handles as well is a damn good price. Is he going to paint the doors after he shaves the handles too? Is he also going to install the button and electric motors?

There is an $8,000 body kit for the third gen camaro's. There is a $6,000 kit also, but the 8,000 is more impressive and has lamborgini style doors. Go to www.euroworksltd.com and then go to the evoluzione2 body. Its cool as hell and looks nothing like a camaro. Have fun and be prepaired to drool.

evo II doors
I also contacted k1 styling, asking them if they could sell me the parts and instructions necessary for the scissor-style doors.
I was responded to by a man aptly named "dick" with the following text:
"DEAR STEVE, SORRY, WE CAN NOT HELP."
i was a little taken off by the man's short and rather rude email. i understand now why he was so quick with me after reading through the forums at ALL THE PEOPLE that have tried this before.
i went back to write a second email to "dick" and told him to keep in mind that helping me will be made worth his while, i.e. i will give him money.
he wrote back quickly (they're good with writing back soon) with the following text:
"Dear sir, it is understandable you should pay, but the problem is, that it won´t fit without our complete kit. No way."
i wrote back, thanking dick for his help. he didn't seem to understand that i was thanking him and ending the questioning, so he wrote back once more:
"Steve, don´t feel touched, please.
I hope you understood well: the problem is, that our body covers the big hinges, + there is a very complicated mechanism located on special power operated pantograph, which is automatically covering or unveiling the hinge during the door movement. It is interesting, but very custom for this kit.
If I say THERE is NO WAY, just trust me.
We want your business, but it does not work..."
now i think its pretty clear that dick is working with some sort of text translator... as there are a few parts of this email that just dont add up.
At this point i'm not looking to k1 styling directly any more for help on the scissor-door mod. however, i do intend to contact the american supplier for k1 kits and order the instructional video tape for the installation of the evo II kit.
they charge about 40$ american for the other videos on the website, and i'm willing to spend 40$ american on the chance at getting a better look at what the hell these people are doing to make the doors scissor like that.
it has become my next goal for my car to have scissor doors. i refuse to believe what everyone is saying about how it'll cost 1500 bucks to do it.
i simply refuse.
how much can 2 special joints, 4 high-test struts, 2 custom latches (maybe?) , and the installation of these parts cost?
i guessed about 500 bucks tops. plus i'm not talking about automatic door-raising here. im willing to give it the push it needs, just so long as the struts help a lot, and i wont mind replacing the struts in 4 years should they get tired.
i'll post a new thread when my mod gets underway, or if i make any progress.
they will be mine. oh yes, they will be mine.

Yeah if you write to K1 be prepared for some weird replies. They are very nice people, but like you said, some of them dont speak english. They are out of the Slovak Republic (used to be Yugoslavia) in Europe. I've written to them many times and sometimes the replies are great, other times they leave me scratching my head. You would have a better chance with the American counterpart, Euro Works Ltd. I think buying the video is a great idea (I didnt even think about that one) to see how they do it. Just remember that anything is possible ...
Cant wait to see it done.

evo 2 pics
heres the strut config that k1 used on its car:
it does describe the wing doors to be "MANUAL" in big capitol letters ... so if they can push up their doors, why cant i? look at those puny little struts!
and here, you can see the only visable signs of a latch mechanism.. which appears pretty stock to me.
it also doesn't look like the doors "pop-out" first at all... most people suggest that this would be necessary, but that may be because the evo 2 has different mouldings and therefore wouldn't require popping out first.
will keep you posted.

Thats how I
want my doors to open. I don't particularily like how the doors on the Evol sk1 kits open. They seem to think that their is 10 ft available at either side of you for the door to open at any give time.

that 'stang is awesome! Wish the doors were a tad faster though..
But yeah, I'd much rather them open like that instead of the EVO kit... though I must say that EVO kit is quite an innovative kit. Can you imagine driving around in that, people looking at your "European Sports Car" as you drive by, with V8 American Muscle under the hood and rumbling from the pipes.....

Ive been looking for some site or just anything on this topic for the lambo doors, Ive seen the evo kit a year ago and hate the way they open, plus its all fiberglass. If any of you have any more videos or sites or any information that would help me I would be very thankful. I swear im going to get Lambprguini doors on a 92 trans am, I may have to spend alot of money, BUT Im not going to blow 5 grand on slow doors lol, struts will doo even if I have to have alot of them.
