CHeck out http://www.hr3rdgen.org, Hampton Roads Thirdgen Forum, its for all of VA really....

Looks like its tiem to clean that bad boy. An K&N Open Element would be a great first mod, and break out some castrol super degreaser, some simple green and some dish soap and scrub the hell outta that engine bay! =)

Dude! You only paid $2450 for a '92 RS and you think you got a bad deal?!?! I paid $5000 (which was too much) for my '91 RS a year ago. Mine was in very good condition and had way less miles than yours, but I could have taken that extra $2550 and done some performance mods and left it looking like a$$ for a while!

Your car is gonna be sweet once its cleaned up a bit. Keep us updated on your progress.

No one's car looks as good up close as they do in pics.
Doesn't look like that bad of a deal really. I paid $5900 total (cause it was from a dealer, $5100+tax, plates, etc) for my 92 RS with 62,000 miles when I bought it. It was in good shape, very minor rust. I liked it cause it was a black Camaro with a V8 (TBI though). It was way too much now that I look back on it, especially since I got my IROC for less.

Thanks for the replies

un4givin89, since that pic the engine bay has had 2 rounds of Gunk, and tonight will get the underside hit with a powerwasher

RSFreak, for around here what my mum paid was far to much. I was 2 hours to late to picking up a 91 Z28 with the 305 5-speed, 66k, mint interior and few paint chips on the exterior for $3100. Ill just say I was very angry and not a pleasant guy to be around for a few days

The guy my mum got ripped off by apparently 'restores thirdgens' exclusively. Id like to refrase that to the moron buys thirdgens dirst cheep, slaps some paint here and there, and sells it for double what its worth to people who dont know better. And in the process doesnt put about 2 dozen of the bolts holding various bodyparts back on.

Oh, question, what are the things called that hold the from nose on between the headlights? Theres something like 6 of them I think that should be there and I only got 1.

Yeah, I can see you being upset about that!

As far as painting the aircleaner goes, most auto parts chains carry high temp engine paint. That should get the job done.

Show manual showed up today!! Now i can get working gauges! (I hope)

Another question,... rust. On the whole the car is rust free but on the underbody underneath the rear bumper where its little flat is a few small areas of rust forming. Is there any way I can stop it from spreading further? Its the ONLY rust on the car (not including exhaust) and it be sweet if I can keep it that way.
Can I just sand it all off, smack some primer on and then put the blue/green paint back on? The entire car still has a good coat of that blue/green so I didnt want to ruin it and put por15 on underneath. Will the primer and paint prevent it from rusting again? Or do i need some kind of rust preventer??

Thanks again everyone! This cars gonna look sweet with all this help im getting

Greg, yea I knows how the perf vs looks goes, if I had my way id have a good $2k under the hood by now, but on my seriously tight schedule right now, looks are comming first since they suck so much more than the powerplant at the moment.

I was powerwashing under the hood again, amazing how much crap dissappears if you keep at it. I just noticed though that I was starting to peel paint off the top of the block and the intake, but what came off left a real shiny silver instead So I think im gonna get a little diverted here while I wait a few hours before I can get to the chevy dealer (bro stole my normal ride) and get a few wires out of the way and strip the rest of the horrid black off the motor.

Oh, another question. The Lexan t-tops I got are ugly looking. Can I get them replaced with glass ones? Is it a direct swap? Cause I think I read that Id have to change the locking mechanism as well or something.

I know what you mean! Shortly after buying my RS, I had to sell my beloved '85 Z28. For half what I paid for the RS I could have gotten paint, wheels and performance mods for the Z and still had $2500 left over!!!

Just a quick update:

I spent yesterday and today stomping around junkyards and found a fairly good set of seats out of a 93-94 (forgot which) camaro. They are the standard ones I think but the drivers seat is power All I gotta do now is find out where I can splice into to hook it up.... ideas???

MY interior as you can see on my site is all grey, these seats are the 2 tone light/dark grey ones. I got a black or charcoal carpet coming hopefully friday to put in as well. Still dunno where Im gonna get black/charcoal sail panels.

Finally binned those ugly front indicators of mine for new ones

Front brakes are done, new disks and pads later. Start the rear tomorrow.

Old fart at the junkyard had 2 '88+ camaro's with near mint dash pads in them but he wont sell them to me. Says he gets calls from insurance companies etc for the entire dash which he can sell to them for $700, he wont take my $90 for just the pad.

There were at least 3 sets of good glass ttops down there on the cars as well.. I have the crappy *** lexan ones now, are those tops direct replacements? I think I heard that id have to rip out the mounting holes from the glass equiped car to put in mine as well?

man, ive spent at least $1100 on this car and $700 of its just makeing it safe to drive let alone making it look pretty.
