leaky t-tops

my 86 bird leaks in the back area. I saw something about some type of permatex (sp) could be used. I tried to find the post about it but could not.

Plus I need instruction about using it. how long do i leave the t-tops on. Here is a pic of the t-top area.

looks like its time to replace your weather stip, looks kind of rough.

In my opinion.

Yeah, I don't think you can save that, it needs to be relaced. There is a good tech article on this site on how to do it. Someone posted here a little while ago that a lot of "t-top leaks" actually come from where the rear window mounts, and to silicon that area. That might be what you are talking about. In this case though, my bet is the leak is comming from the t-top.

Just FYI... here's what I did to get the tops on an 85 that my family used to own to stop leaking: On a hot, sunny day, lay them out on the asphalt in your driveway, or any surface that gets pretty hot and drench tham in Meguires tire gel (the purple stuff). This kinda refubishes them. They soak up the tire gell a lot better whilst hot. Keep applying the stuff every half hour for about 3 hours, then while they are still hot, reapply them to the car with some sealant. Mine ended up noticably bigger around and about a half inch longer than before... they now sealed great!!! All leaks were stopped. This only works if they are not torn or heavily crushed though. Best of luck to ya.

I thought the weather stripping was the problem on mine but I found yesterday that mine is leaking through the actual top itself where the arrow is. I took it apart and put sealer on the underside.
