Puddle on Air Filter
I have an '83 T/A with the stock bubble hood. I've noticed that after it rains, there's a small puddle on my air filter assembly. Has anybody else run into this problem?

It's a common problem with that year.GM had a recall on it in fact. They got a new hood, most of the cars didn't go in for the recall until someone tried to start it after a rain storm and hydrau locked the engine and bent half the rods.I believe the replacement hoods didn't have a functioning scoop.

my 83 does the exact same thing. I checked the air cleaner and it appears that no water is getting in, it just leaves a puddle on top of the air cleaner.
okfoz, do you have a pic of that rail so I know what your talking about, thanks.

Like 83T/A_Dave, the water doesn't leak inside my air filter either. It just sits there, and I don't want it to screw up the paint or possibly the motor....I guess the easiest fix is to buy a garage...although i'd also like to take a peek at that drain rail okfoz!

yes, it was me with the font, I can e-mail it to you, just don't share it.
As for the drain, I don't have any pix right now, give me a chance to take some pix of it, I might be able to get them up tonight.

I've run into the same problem....however I think on my hood the entire "grill" area has a gap in it that runs water straight onto the engine.
I saw a site were a guy siliconed the entire seam. I may be doing the same thing soon.
I got this hood from an 84 trans am. Ive also since fixed the broken light problem and installed grid Tailights from an 85 t/a. Ive got new doors going on next plus the 82 ta front ground fx.

When I had the Ram air setup I never had a problem, of course I don't drive the car in the rain so that might explain some.
