My hood won't open!

My hood won't open when I pull the handle! I have to either get a friend to help me or bungy cord the hood release to the door to keep it pulled, go up front and beat the living Sh*t out of my hood till it pops up a bit, go back and let the hood release handle back down, and THEN it opens. What a pain in the @$$!! can someone tell me how to fix this and how easy it is to fix? thanx.

Gone fishing recently?

Get down to a sporting goods place.
Pick up some fishing line weights.
Pull up the slack in the line and crimp the weight to the cable.
It works!

Try some WD-40 or simialr lubricant on the latch; cable and hinges - that worked for my hood.

Have you tweaked the hood in any way? Or even removed it? Try this.... either WD-40 or a white lithium grease on the latch, and if that doesn't get it you'll have to align the secondary on the hood; it's held on by 2 9/16's (? I think ?) bolts, loosen them and slide them to either the right or left, try using small incriments. My hood did the same thing after I painted the car....

I had the same problem, got tired of hitting the hood also. I needed a new hood striker, the piece on the the hood that locks into the latch on the body, got it from a dealer for around 5.00. Then I sprayed a lubricant like wd40 on the latch. Works good, but I could use a new latch also, as the metal is wearing there to.

Hey thanx all, I will try some of these as soon as I get my car back (I'm grounded at the moment ) I haven't done any mods to my hood or taken it off, unless the previous owner did.

Make sure your hood striker isn't getting caught on the edge of the latch mechanism. Try this....loosen the striker bolts until the striker will just barely move back and forth with a little force. Lower the hood carefully into the latch mechanism. Don't latch the hood all the way down. Release the hood with the safety catch and raise. Tighten the striker bolts. The striker should now be aligned to the latch mechanism. May take a couple of times to get it right. Also as previously mentioned clean thoroughly with WD-40 and then relube with grease gun or white lithium grease. Good Luck!!

My hood used to do the same thing, it is really easy to fix and doesn't cost anything. with the hood open just grab the spring on the hood (by the catch) and streeeeetch it out about 2 or 3 inches then try it. if it doesn't work repeat the steps (within reason) until it does. the spring gets week from being compressed all the time and won't force the hood open when the release is pulled.

P.S. please be carefull when doing this, if the spring slips out of your hand it could easily hurt you.

Graphite also works well.I used it on Bulldog92's car last weekend and now his hood pops up every time. I also greased his hinges and air shocks under the hood. He was also having a problem getting his ignition key out and graphite took care of that too.

Ok, this isn't really the fix but it works for me every time. Pull out the hood release until you hear the click, push it back in all the way, walk around to the hood and firmly press down on it, remove your hands from the hood and it pops up.
