Anyone have pictures of 245 vs 255 tires?
I'm stuck between the sizes of tire to get, but I'd really like to see the difference in how much side wall they have. I want it to kinda fill up the wheel well, but i don't want an excessively large tire wall. They will be going on a set of 16x8 IROC-Z '85-87 style wheels, either 245/50-16 Eagle GSC's or 255/50-16 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. I plan on lowering it about an inch later with the eibach pro-kit. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

I don't have any pics of the two different sizes, but I can tell you that the second number signifies the tire wall height. Just as long as it's a 50 aspect, the wall size should be for the most part the same. 255's are just suppose to be wider than 245's, but then again, that's gonna depend on the make of the tire. Different companies vary. I'd pick the design tire that I liked, and look at the two sizes side by side in person, and make my decision by that.

Yeah, I understand what the numvbers represent, the 50 means it's a 50% aspect ratio of the width to get the size of the sidewall(or something along those lines) so that with wider tires, I'll end up with a bigger tire wall.

I have 245's on the front and 255's on the back. They barely look diferent, however I had 255's on the front for a short time and it looked a little funny. I might be able to have pictures for you on Sat.

You're close enough to OKC, there should be a tire store in that area that has both sizes in stock so you can see the difference.
The height difference is 0.4 inches.
A 245/50 is 25.7 overall diameter vs. the 255/50 @ 26.1
That info is straight out of the Bridgestone Price/Data book.
width goes from 10.0 to 10.5 overall width
tread width 9.1 to 9.4
Hope this helps a bit.
I've run 255/50's on the rear of my 89 Iroc and didn't like the taller sidewall, although not too much on paper it is noticible on the car. Traction wasn't worth the change in my opinion. Better quality tires make the biggest difference.
I have GS-C's on my 89 now, and their great tires, but I have Eagle F1GS on my 82Z w/16" GTA lace wheels and they grip even better and ride much better
Happy hunting.
P.S. Call Executive Tire in OKC, bought some Bridgestone Potenza RE940's from him over E-Bay @ very good price. Might be an option for you since you're local. Talk to Kirt.
Also, Is KATT still rockin OKC? I haven't been able to get them on the web in months!?

If you want to compare tire sizes go to http://www.eunos.com/tirecalc/ . It will show you the sizes then write a description about each tire's size. It will also tell you how you speedometer will be effected

The visual difference in sidewall height isn't really noticeable.
*edit... my math was horriably off from what I had posted originally... ... but, the sidewall height difference equates to 5mph slow w/255/50's@60mph (tested in front of one of those speed survey things)
*edit edit.. ok maybe(big maybe) I was right... (my math sux bad) but, does this seem right.. 255(mm)-50%(sidewall ratio)/10(to get cm)/2.4(to convert to inches)=5.3125"(sidewall height) ? (245/50=5.104" sidewall height)
I have the 2 diff sizes.. they're crappy but at least I can show you....

I would not go over 245 with stock rims. I thought, what the heck they will fit, and got 265's... kills your handling... your sidewalls give and your rear wobbles back and forth... I also thought they would hook better at the strip... nope... same 60' times as with my 235's.... If you want to hook get drag radials....
