235 or 255 for 16x8 wheels?

When I buy tires for my new wheels will I be able to put 255/50/16's on them or will I have to stick to the 235's or 245's?
My GTA has 235's I think, but I'm trying to get as wide as I can on the 'Maro

255/50/16 will work just fine.

The wider and skinnier the tire, the better in my opinion...

235's would be pointless. 245's or 255's are more along the lines of what you probably want... keep in mind 255's will also be taller.

When you say 'taller' you mean like bigger sidewall right? How much bigger would it be anyway, is it noticeable? I recently got 16x8 IROC wheels and I'm getting tires this spring for them, I can't decide between 245 or 255...

I wish my brother had new pics of his car.He has polished Iroc wheels with 255/50s and it looks really sweet.

Ok, on my GTA I have 245 not 235, I have 235 on my current 15x7 RS wheels. I want the widest I tires I can get so I guess that will be 255s? How much difference in sidewall height over 245s?

There is a 1/2 inch difference in total height between the 245 and the 255 and your only gaining about a 1/4" in tread width.

Tires don't get better as you go wider and thinner. Every rim has an optimum tire width that offers the best performance. This optimum size changes per the application you're applying your car. If you want cornering, then a 245/50-R16 is optimum. Anything smaller and it's too tight on the rim. Anything bigger and you've gained way too much sidewall and the tire will get sloppy. However, for better off-the-line acceleration a 255 will work better because there is more sidewall. However, this isn't necessarily true because pretty much all the best 16" tires are made in 245/50-R16. So just because it's theoretically better for something doesn't mean the tires being made are better. In short, if you're just going for looks do whatever you please. If you want performance then choose the 245 and the right tire compound for what you want to do.

go for the 255's in the rear, and 245's in the front. I did that on my 91Z and it worked out fine. I was informed that 255's will rub on the front.

I have 255 in front and in U-turns or hard driving (spinning round with smokin wheels) they rub the inside of the fenders... go for the 245 in front.

Go for the 245, if ya want less sidewall aka "profile" that is what 50 stands for. So if the second number is higher than 50 then its more profile, less than 50 low profile.
