235 or 255 for 16x8 wheels?
When I buy tires for my new wheels will I be able to put 255/50/16's on them or will I have to stick to the 235's or 245's?
My GTA has 235's I think, but I'm trying to get as wide as I can on the 'Maro

When you say 'taller' you mean like bigger sidewall right? How much bigger would it be anyway, is it noticeable? I recently got 16x8 IROC wheels and I'm getting tires this spring for them, I can't decide between 245 or 255...

I wish my brother had new pics of his car.He has polished Iroc wheels with 255/50s and it looks really sweet.

Ok, on my GTA I have 245 not 235, I have 235 on my current 15x7 RS wheels. I want the widest I tires I can get so I guess that will be 255s? How much difference in sidewall height over 245s?

Tires don't get better as you go wider and thinner. Every rim has an optimum tire width that offers the best performance. This optimum size changes per the application you're applying your car. If you want cornering, then a 245/50-R16 is optimum. Anything smaller and it's too tight on the rim. Anything bigger and you've gained way too much sidewall and the tire will get sloppy. However, for better off-the-line acceleration a 255 will work better because there is more sidewall. However, this isn't necessarily true because pretty much all the best 16" tires are made in 245/50-R16. So just because it's theoretically better for something doesn't mean the tires being made are better. In short, if you're just going for looks do whatever you please. If you want performance then choose the 245 and the right tire compound for what you want to do.

go for the 255's in the rear, and 245's in the front. I did that on my 91Z and it worked out fine. I was informed that 255's will rub on the front.
