89 T/A, full correction, pic heavy
Hi guys. I've been doing paint correction now for going on two years. I did my 89 T/A this past fall. I will get some good "after" pics this week. When I finished it last fall and I didn't get any good pics. Now it's nice again and I will get some soon.
I'm going ahead and make this thread. It's really hard to photograph a white car. The before pics are ok. It was really tough for me to get some good 50/50 shots. I won't be able to get outside shots till this weekend. It's dark by the time I get home.
Products used
Washed 2 bucket method w/ Dawn
Clayed w/ Megs medium grade clay
Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner, various brushes
Meg's unigrit 3000 6in and 3in sanding discs
Megs cutting/polishing MF pads
LC white flat 5.5 pads
Meg's M105, D300, M205
Black Fire Wet Diamond sealant applied w/ red pad on PC
Adams Detail Spray(I love this stuff)
Wheels
Unigrit 3000 wet sand paper
0000 steel wool and Mothers Aluminum/Mag polish
Adams #1 metal polish w/ MF applicator pads
Tails
Unigrit 3000 3in sanding disc
LC 4in orange and white CCS foam pads
M105/M205
Car is a 89 T/A w/ GTA wheels fiberglass wrap around wing and a Hawks Ram Air 1 hood. The car was painted several years ago and still had sanding marks and buffer trails in it. I can't remember what clear was used but its HARD. MF pads and M105 didn't do much to get the heavy defects out. I ended up damp sanding the whole car w/ Meg's unigrit 3000. Then used the MF pads w/ M105&D300. The wet sanding marks cam out real easy, a lot easier than the defects in the paint.
After that I used M205/LC white pad. I was impressed with the gloss after this step and decided not to do a third step. Finished with Blackfire Wet Diamand sealant which I let sit for 24 hours. Applied it with a red pad using the PC7424XP. BFWD goes on very easy, thin layers is the key I have found from using it and talking to Jeff. 24 hours later it wipes off easier than it went on. I was going to use the PC with a MF towel wrapped around a soft pad but it came off so easy by hand there was no reason to.
I didn't realize the hood wasn't fully closed when I took the pic's.
Heavy defects in the hood. Bird dropping etching, wet sanding marks, RIDS, cobb webbing, you name it.
Hoop in bad shape also.

Re: 89 T/A, full correction, pic heavy
Washed the car using the 2 bucket method and Dawn to strip off any remaining wax, although I doubt there was any.
Clayed
I tried to get some pics with the halogen light but wasn't successful, same with the Brinkman. You could see all the defects in person but they wouldn't show up on camera. The best pics seemed to be reflective shots.
50/50 on the hood, left side has been wet sanded, MF pad M105
Quarter before, in most of the pics you can't really see the defects it just looks fuzzy, yes I said fuzzy.
Quarter after; wetsanding then MF pad/M105
The lights needed some help. They weren't completely destroyed but still needed corrected.

Wetsanded
I went over the center section again because there were still a lot of scratches.
After
They will be wiped down with IPA then Opti Coated.
Wheels have been neglected. Centers are powder coated black with polished lips. The lips have some deep pitting in them. For right now I wet sanded them w/ unigrit 3000, then mothers mag/aluminum polish w/ 0000 steel wool, then Adams #1 metal polish w/ MF followed up w/ Adams #2 metal polish w/MF. There are still some pitting but you have to get really close up to see it. To removed those defects further wet sanding, probably starting at 1000 grit to get them out.
Before
Mothers polish/steel wool

Re: 89 T/A, full correction, pic heavy
I got the car back in the garage tonight and snapped a few pics.
Remember what the hoop looked like?
And the hood
Wheel
Pics of water beading on the BFWD. Car was out today when it rained.
If the weather permits I will get some good outside shots this weekend. I got about 85-90% correction on the car. The paint has some pearl in it and radiates in the sunlight.
Thanks for looking.

I finished this in early December. I copied/pasted from another forum I posted on. If the wording or timeline doesn't make sense that's why.
Thanks for looking.

Beautiful work man. I have really wanted to attempt wet sanding, and now I'm even more inclined to find that perfect specimen to try it on.
Can't wait to see the outside shots in natural lighting.
