Lower Accent Color ...different than the norm?

I've been searching all over the place but can't find a picture of it done. I was hoping someone could help me if it's out there. I really like the black Irocs with the red trim around the lower body and I'm wondering...out loud. How would a black Firebird look with the lower accent color being red instead of the normal silver, gold, etc.

At first I was going to do gray or silver, but thought maybe I might do something not the norm. So, how would red look I wonder and I'm talking a bright red (maybe Iroc red) on the very bottom of the car the same width as a factory accent. Anyone good at photo shop or know where I can see something similar? Here is a pic of my car:

Just my 2 cents (and it may not even be worth that) but I do not think it will look very good.

Maybe a gun metal dark gray?

I'm a big fan of black and red. My car and my truck both are. However, I'm not sure that a black car with red gfx will look right. I guess I'd have to see it done though. IDK.

Yea, I'd have to see it done too which is why I was hoping someone had. This car doesn't have GFX, so it would just be a lower accent "stripe" at the very bottom. I mean, I look at a black Iroc with the red stripe and it just looks freaking awesome, but that stripe is not at the very bottom, so I don't know. Just an idea I guess.

If you did charcoal at the bottom and seporated it with a red stripe, that would look pretty cool.

Agreed... there are white Formulas like this. Looks great. Makes it tricky picking out wheels, though.

Red accents won't look very good on a black car, in my opinion.

Re: Lower Accent Color ...different than the norm?

So, here is about what it would look like. This was done in paint so it's not the greatest, but gave me the overall effect. I did this last night:

Part of me likes it, but part of me doesn't. I'm going to do another one with gray on the bottom and a thin red stripe above it later.

Thoughts?

Re: Lower Accent Color ...different than the norm?

A bit too much red. I think it would look good with the gfx black or dark gray with a thin red stripe, but your car, do it how you like.

Re: Lower Accent Color ...different than the norm?

Oh, WOW, thanks Luis for doing that! That almost looks REAL and much better than my "paint" work.lol I think I'm kind of sold on the gray with thin red stripe. See, originally, I was going to do a Formula clone on my car. I've already got everything needed except the rear spoiler. I even got the interior panel with the Performance Suspension badge. I was going to do it so well that the ONLY way to tell would be to look underneath or at my RPO codes. However, lately I've changed my mind and decided to keep it a basic Firebird, but maybe do a Formula stripe kit/lower accent or something similar.

I just want it FAR from the Knight Rider look. People around me still think I only have one car.lol I don't even want to put the extra turbo hood I have on it. I'm keeping the flat basic hood.lol

Re: Lower Accent Color ...different than the norm?

I'm also contemplating white letters out, however, the genius PO took a wire wheel attachment to the rims. I'm either going to replace them or refinish them. They look like brushed aluminum up close which looks stupid. He really did a number on them. Anyway, if I repaint the wheels, maybe I could do the insert parts the same gray as the bottom of the car, but where would a red pinstripe look good on a wheel? The outer lip?

After that, polish them and apply the red stripe as I did. I would not do the outer lip, but that's just me.

You can probably get each wheel done in about 4 to 5 hours. Yeah, a lot of work, but it makes all the difference in the world. An air or an oscillating sander will make the sanding job go faster.

Just an idea.
It's a good idea. Oh, yea I didn't mean a stripe on the way outer edge.lol What I meant was basically where yours is which I didn't even notice until I went back and looked closer at your wheel pic. I do like that. Is that thin red stripe on your wheels vinyl or painted on?

No updates yet, but I'm definitely doing a charcoal gray with thin red stripe eventually. I've been busy working on the '82 lately since it's show season again. I still have to get my new bumper cover painted for the '89 and once that's done I'll work on the lower stripe/paint. I've got all summer.lol No rush here. One of these days (when I get around to it) I will start a new thread outlining both my cars and progress or I might make two separate threads for each car.

Re: Lower Accent Color ...different than the norm?

Hey man I'm thinking of doing the same thing! I have the aero GFX, and I'm thinking of just doing the red stripe. I'm also going with black/red wheels instead of the stock silver. Anyone have an opinion on a red hood bird (the louvered one)?
