255/50r16 rear tires

anyone have pictures of how this looks? i'm going to keep 245/50r16 on the fronts, but want to see how slightly bigger tires look on the rears....i'm trying to avoid making it look like a trailer park racer

A 255 50 16 will be half an inch taller and half an inch wider than stock 245 50 16 tires. If you really don't want it to look like a trailer park racer then use tires with the same height on all 4 wheels.

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

245/50r16 is the largest i can do for the fronts though i think. i get rub every so often still. is it possible to do 255's in the front?

and only half an inch may not even be noticeable so i may still do it

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

Why go through all the trouble of switching from a 245 to a 255? I doubt there will be much (if any) difference in handling. If you want to run wider tires you are going to have to get wider wheels.

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

I have 255/50 R16 all way around on stock wheels. 255's rubs front sometimes. Basically every time you turn your wheels to the max

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

255/50r16s with your existing fronts are as large as you will want to go. If you jump to 275s that's probably the look your trying to avoid.I think it depend on your car, wheels, what stance/rake you have or want.
A photo of your ride would help. Sweating over a half in though I seriously doubt it will make you look white trash, or whatever.
Photo please.

When I bought my car it had 245/50r16s on the front and 255/50r16s on the back. I wouldn't even have noticed the size difference if I didn't read the sidewall. Here's a picture of it with that old setup. If you can tell the difference, you have a better eye than I do!

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

I'm currently running the 245's up front with the 255's in the reat and as JeremyNYR said, it is not noticeable at all.

I don't even see the point of running two different size tires that are so close in size that you can't even tell the difference.

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

thanks guys, i didnt realize it would be such a minute difference. and the reason why i am contemplating different tire sizes is cuz my rears are shot....or probably were last year, before the burnouts. now i have two slicks as rear tires, the fronts are fine, look brand new still. and anyone with rear drums knows that the rims arent interchangeable so i dont have that option. and after switching my rear to 3.73 (and changing the vss to accomodate as closely as possible to the gear change) my speedo is still off a bit. Thought slightly larger tires may help.
Either way, i'm due for rear tires, and i was weighing my options. since you guys have pointed out how hard it is to tell the difference, i'll probably go with the 255's. thanks guys

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

this subject is in regards to photos of how this tire size would look. that subject was in regards to handling and increasing tire size. if you consider the separate subjects one in the same then yes, i have duplicate subjects to the same reference

Re: 255/50r16 rear tires

thanks, and i appreciate the help. like i said, i had no idea the difference was such a small amount. as soon as i get a few extra bucks to spare i'll have to pick up some new shoes for the back tires, gonna go with the 255's. i think that it wont be noticeable like you guys said.

sorry i wasnt able to get a picture other than the sig pic, not on my personal computer and i have no pictures to put up.

It's hard to tell the difference between the 245 and 255 Dunlop SP8000s on my IROC.
