I guess it would depend on the shape of each car and what you could afford, but I'd say go with the '86 if you can't find a V8 thirdgen. I personally don't care for the '74 - '76 Bird's front end and tailights, and since it's got a 305, you'll want a bigger engine one day, so a engine swap would probably be in the future anyway. So with that being said, If the '86 is a nice car, buy it, make it look good, then get a V8 for it or Vice Versa. But that's just my opinion, it's your money, and you gotta drive it, so do what you wanna do

Car: 1987 Camaro IROC Z28
Engine: 355
Transmission: 1994 T56
Axle/Gears: BW 3.27 (stock)
the 2.8MPFI is a form of tuned port injection. Not the same setup that's on the v8's obviously tho

Well i'm sorta biased to the '76 they're front end looks really good compared to the ugly '74 and '75 front end, the 305 should be a tad bit faster then the 2.8 however 650 is a good price for a project car.

But it's also probably a good price for a disaster car...if ya go with the 305 oldie, be sure to get it checked out BEFORE buying it....! If the guy won't let you take it to a garage to be looked over, take a mechanic friend to go look at it..ovbiously you know there's some stuff wrong at that price, just make sure it's stuff you can handle.
