Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
what I like about this kit is that the housings still look factory, they dont have that clear plastic crappy euro looking look to them. Looks like housings are glass...is that right??

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
it doesnt have a cutoff line because these housings are not true projector hid housings and will give off glare to oncoming traffic to a degree.his light output is increased no doubt but doesnt mean its right to put hid's in regular halogen glass housings.im guilty of this myself but I cant afford to make a projector kit work with my popup lights just yet.its not in the budget.

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
I wouldnt recommend this kit since it is not an actual projector. Putting an HID bulb in anything other than a true projector lens is unsafe to the drivers around you due to the amount of glare they put out.
I am hoping to finish my retro fitted projectors here in the next month and will post pics when I am done.

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
Yes it is illegal to use HID lighting in a regular halogen housing without a projector, and for good reason. It is unsafe. You wouldnt laugh it off if you were the person blinded by oncoming traffic and wrecked your car.

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
No they won't....
Camaro's & Trans Am's/firebirds have different size bulbs....If they had the larger housings then yea, they would work...
Camaro's- 4x6 housing/bulbs
T/A's/Firebirds- 6x7 housing/bulb
Hawks has them for 98-02 but not for 3rd gen's...(i think)

And AFAIK, all headlight swaps are illegal if the housing/bulbs aren't DOT approved.

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
Im using the 6x7 dot approved hella h4 housings..but still putting hid's in them does not mean its legal. And you can get bi-xenon hid kits so that you retain hi/low function with hid's on the birds...but really its not needed.Ive never used my highbeams after putting in my hid kit.
Id love to put in a true projector kit and have my light popup still..but its very tight for all that, and not cheap to do right.

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
im going to dig this thread up from the grave, but I have the hawks kit and I started to install it but ran into a snag or two. I noticed when I installed them that they go out when my high beams are on. is that correct? also there is a rubber grommet that comes with the housing, does that get used?

Re: Just Installed Hawks HID Kit
With regard to the Lo beams going out, that is normal on Camaros. You would need to run a diode in the circuit to keep both on.
While it may look like your low/hi-beams are on w/stock lighting.Thats not the case. The stock halogen is both a lo/hi beam lamp. When your hi's are switched on the lo beams will flicker. This is the point at which the lo beam goes out & the hi beam switches on.
