Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
http://drcolorchip.com/?gclid=CNXooM...FcleTAod6HsLKQ
I had a chunk of tire jump up and bite my front spoiler couple years back, and followed a buddy with drag radials and took a couple small rock chips on the nose of my car... has anyone actually used this with sucess?
I have repaired rock chips on other vehicles with touch up paint, and 1000 & 1500 grit sand paper to knock it down, and then polish it it back out with the PC, but this looks so much easier and safer.

Yes I have. It basically fills the chip with paint and you wipe off excess with their secret compound.
On black, I'd bet it would work well. Their paint didn't really match my yellow IROC though.

Re: Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
That is great to know. My boss and I are gonna order a couple kits and get that 10% off that they are offering, just wanted to make sure its not a waste of money.
So its touch up paint, then "secret" paint thinner type solution? Thats kinda what it appears to be from the pics and videos.

Re: Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
So you are worried about removing the exsisting touch up paint that is already on your car? That might be a PITA. You might need to use the sand and polish method on your exsisting touch up paint.

No touch up paint to remove on my baby. I had the nose/spolier re-painted and shaved the emblem in 06... hoping this will keep me from doing it again...

Re: Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
I have had 3 kits. A space blue metallic for an s-10, bright red and a dark gray. They all have worked well. It is much cleaner and matches better than any touch up I have used, unless you want to wet sand etc.

Hmmmmm... Chances are that if they did a poor job getting it on there, they probably didn't prep the area either, and maybe you could chip out the little pieces. Super tiedious (sp) work, but might be better than scrubbing with acetone? I acetone is rough stuff, but if using a white towel you can kinda keep track of how much original paint you may be removing, by watching the color absorbtion on the towel.

Re: Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
I ordered some for my dark red T/A. It works pretty well on very small chips. But anything larger will have a hard time keeping paint in the chip. I watched that you tube vid and to a certain degree that guy is right. It is hard to rub off the excess paint. If you leave it on too long you will use up a lot of that liquid. Sometimes it works great on chips and sometimes the liqiuid will completely take all the paint out of the chip. I used up all of that thinner after about 15 chips. I still have a whole bottle of paint, and I'm just going to use it as regular old touch-up paint!! The paint is a perfect match...lol.

Re: Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
Well full intended to have something to show on this by now. My surprise purchace of a 92 vert has kinda got my to-do list all screwed up. Good news is that the black Dr.Colorchip kit I bought will work on both cars and the vert has all sorts of chips and scratches to try different methods on.
I will for sure update this thread!

Re: Dr. ColorChip... anyone used it?
Ok everyone I had the chance to use the kit yesterday. I purchase the "road rash" kit (largest kit), and lucky for me I ended up buying another black Camaro on Thursday. The 92 Z28 convertible's paint is in pretty tough shape with multiple little scratches and abrasions in the paint. The nose and front spoiler were by far the worst, from paint flaws (bubbled/raised), to scrapes and rock chips. So the "new" Z28 seemed like a better first "try it and see", before putting it on my 91...
Overall I like the product and it does work. The paint supplied it much thinner than factory touch up paint and applies easier. I found that as others have mentioned and the videos states that the paint will wipe out of a chip... YES it will on larger chips/damage, but this can be solved by letting larger chips dry for 30-40 seconds before wiping with your gloved hand. I found that doing a section at a time worked best for me.
After wiping with the solution and polishing with the supplied micro-fiber towel it becomes obvious that this is not a cure all for returning a damaged section of paint into a masterpiece of paint perfection... You can see everywhere if was applied. In this particular case this may be more of an issue with my vehicle since the paint was in such poor condition prior to application. The areas I used it on looked 100x better than before, and would definitely use it again to at least make the damage not stand out. Dr. Colorchip will not take damaged show quality paint and return it to that with just the methods suggested from the manufacture, but if you are planning on polishing and waxing your paint (as I did) then the results are even better when the Dr. Colorchip repairs can be polished out and blended into the original paint.
Overall I would say that with the methods I used and the amount and severity of the damage that was on my car.... Dr. Colorchip did everything it should have and worked extremely well!!!
PICS:
Drivers side Front spoiler BEFORE
Drivers side nose damage BEFORE
Drivers side front with Colorchip applied and thumb wiped COMPARISON
Drivers side spoiler applied and polished with solvent and microfiber
Passenger side spoiler applied and polished with solvent and microfiber
(You can obviously see where the large amount of repairs were)
Whole front applied and polished with solvent and microfiber
Front end after 5 step polishing procedure
(Can see in the large damage areas that the polishing removed some of the touch up paint)
Whole front shot... The car is now a 10 footer
Hope it helps guys! I'm gonna use it on the 91, and will take pics of that also

Great job!!! I knew you had the patience to do it right......especially after seeing your polishing skills....lol. Really.....that looks SUPER!! How much of that seal act did you go through??? Unfortunately I went through all of mine. I wonder if there is a way to make your own like watering down some paint thinner or something???

I honestly barely used any maybe a 1/16 of the bottle. Just used a dime size spot on the supplied towel, and lightly rubbed, and applied more as it appeared dry. I know that they sell just the sealact in a bottle on the website. Might work better than trying to play Mr. Wizard with paint thinner on the paint your trying to improve
