Cleaning the grease in the engine bay and firewall.
Anybody have any tips on how to clean and degrease my firewall? It has a running engine in it and i dont want to just spray everything under the hood and risk damaging some of my electrical. Should I just put some plastic over the distributor, windshield wiper motor, and avoid spraying directly on any wires. Or is there a better way

Most of the 'dollar stores' have thin, but long rolls of aluminum foil. It's great for wrapping around loomed or exposed wiring, hoses etc. due to its flexibility and waterproofness.

Man engines get wet....especially on our cars. Cover the distributor and intake and go to town.
I wouldn't bother degreasing the bay. Pull motor, power wash, repaint bc/cc. These cars were originally painted with single stage color which has poor chemical resistance. The grease, grime, dirt gets imbedded in the paint and even after cleaning its stained pitted and ruined. Unless you have a car that's bay is as clean as a whistle already De-greasing wont do too much.
I can guarantee you that a rattle can paint job will be better than what is there now.

Hondabrite is pretty amazing. I picked up a rearend from a local parts yard and used hondabrite on it and was really impressed by it. You should be able to get it at any Honda dealership.

Re: Cleaning the grease in the engine bay and firewall.
can anyone tell me how to clean the tpi? ive tried all 3 engine degreasers from GUNK (the degreasing company) and none of them did the job. it doesnt look horrible, but its not clean...and there seems to be some "baked on deposits" that was supposed to taken off by the degreaser...would it be easier to take the plenum out and really go at it? or is there an easier solution leaving it on and cleaning it up? HELP!

Re: Cleaning the grease in the engine bay and firewall.
I used Simple Green on mine and it worked just fine. I covered the alternator with a plastic baggy and sprayed everything else.
After everything had dried out, I sprayed the engine bay down with some CD-2 engine detailer. It looked good for a couple weeks.

I go to the car wash, pop the hood and go to town with hot soapy water all the time. I just dont hose the dizzy or alt. Then rinse.

Then it's rectified to DC, I'm aware. A generator on a welder in a field repair truck doesn't care if it's raining or not, it still works. A Lincoln Ranger8 can produce 8Kw AC, end user is the only potential for electrical hazard. Regardless, it works while wet even while producing AC voltage.
If your alternator is going to take a sh-t if it gets wet, it was bound to die soon anyways.
