Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
Has anyone used this Manual or Powered Altec Show N Go License Plate Transport system on there 3rd Gen car. I am curious to see how many Trans Am's or Camaro's have one and how you decided to set it up.
I recently started by 85 Trans Am for the spring and got pulled over for no Front License Plate. Luckily, the cop was from my generation and grew up with Firebirds and Camaros, so he really liked my Car, just a warning !!
The Show N Go License Plate system could be the ideal way to hide and reveal the License Plate when needed.
Very interested to see who has one on there 3rd Gen
Let me know whick one you have and why you like it
Thanks
Rob

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
i assume its the same thing. I have 2, one on each of my 3rd gens, great stuff. You will have to make a small mount for the back of the slider track to support it up to the inpact bar. Simple really, just use some aluminum stock, bend and bolt it up. they usually come with some perforated steel strapping to do this with, but is cheesy.

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
I have the power one and it failed on the second time using it. It will go down, but it will not go back up. I have not had the opportunity to get underneath my car to see what is going on. I was really excited to have it and now I am a little mad I wasted the money.

the main thing I like about it is it protects the tip of the chin from getting a hole worn through it.

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
That looks cool. The camaro has an area for the Front License Plate, unlike the the Trans Am.
I am thinking of buying the power one for another car first to see how it goes. I am not that handy with electrontic hook-ups like you are, so I have a good friend that has a Stereo electrontic shop that has done alot of work on my TA for me, so I am going to run this past him first.
My 85 TA is pretty stock, so I want to see if installed how many holes need to be drilled and will the wiring interfere/change the stock appearenece under the hood.
My 85 TA is a Carlisle Award Winning car for 2011, so that is an important aspect for me.
Thanks for the pictures and information

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
I have the manual ones on all my cars. Cops in my area really enforce the front plate law. The only bad thing I will say about them is when leaving a car "show" or cruise in-make sure you remember to put it back on the "go" position. I've forgotten a few times and if I pass a cop, it reminds me!

I have the manual on my T/A - don't care for the way the bracket sticks out when the plate is down, still better than the factory mount!

I got mine from Blue Oval Industries. They were the cheapest and had free shipping. I know it is a Ferd site, but they have a Corvette in the instructions.

I hate having a front license plate. So I don't but I guess when I get a ticket I will be having one!

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
I also live in NE Ohio and have only gotten pulled over once in nearly 24-years for not having a front plate mounted. (I usually have it propped against the windshield on the passenger side.) Never did an OHP, Lakewood (!), or any other city cop pull me over for not having a plate mounted. Not even when they were running laser. A Park Ranger did a few years ago when he was driving in the other direction. Guess he had nothing better to do. No ticket, just a friendly reminder.

in the corner of the windshield looks even tackier than being in the front of the car IMO

well if you have a show car, you just pull it off the windshield when you are showing your car or taking pucs of it. Simple...

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
I got a warning from TX DPS for no front plate on my '88 Formula (previously a KS car, never had one mounted). So, I stuck the plate in my front windshield, where it's easy for them to see. And was promptly pulled over by another TX DPS officer, who kindly reminded me that the front plate is supposed to be mounted on the FRONT of the car. :\
I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the front bumper cover, so now it's mounted on Al angle coming forward from under the nose. The Al is mostly hidden by the plate, so it doesn't look TOO tacky. I wish I had known about the Altec manual kit, though.

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
I think it looks worse in the "down" position that just permanently mounting the plate to the car.
I put one on my Mom's 'vette and the cheesy rubber grommet mounts pulled out while on the freeway (admittedly, my step dad said he was well over a hundred when it happened). Mounted a second with a bracket I made and some debris took out the plate a few months later. That car just wasn't meant to have a front plate.

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
I had to replace my Show n go. It has gotten beat up too many times and the plate would just hang down. even worse, the plate seemed to prevent air from getting the air dam, so the car has been running a little hot.
I guess I need to be more careful with it. It's JUST low enough that it would hit curbs when parking, and my car isn't even lowered

Re: Altec Show N Go Front License Plate Transport
The cable on mine just snapped and now I have a $100+ manual one. Over the winter I am going to take it off and see what I can do to make it a little more sturdy. Kind of annoying.
