Re: New 89' Iroc
Thanks man, and yeah absolutely.
As of right now there are several small things that i need to get done.
-Speedometer and RPM gauges arent working
-Locks wont lock or unlock with key
-Hatch motor needs replaced i think
-New headliner
-and small thinks..need new headlight, side marker bulbs, dome light bulb, i need some center caps and a couple emblems.
-Also fog light configuration is wayyyy foreign to me so trying to figure that out cause they dont work but bulbs appear to be in good shape.
uhh i think thats it for little nitpicky things lol
As far as performance and engine stuff basically just want to rebuild the motor completely...I could get into every detail but im sure most of you know a lot about that. In which case ill have some questions in the future as im new to camaros.
But obvioulsy headers, intake, cams, pulleys, catback, intake manifold, blah blah blah the list goes on and on. The engine will be my biggest project. So once the engine is pulled i plan on deleting a bunch of stuff under there i believe havent really decided. and then maybe re-spraying the bay. Got some rust so ill handle that. I guess that about it....im sure ill think of something i forgot after i post this.
Dont want anything too crazy...just basic stuff but nice and clean and of course some power under the hood.
Interior is in pretty good shape minus the carpet....thinking about pulling seats etc out and shampooing it . uhh i think thats it....dash has a small crack...no biggie..then as i said headliner...
More to come im sure but thats what i got so far.

Sounds like a good start! Make sure to keep us posted on your rebuild and make sure you include tons of pictures . Also don't hesitate to ask questions about any problems! Many of us are very friendly and know just about everything there is to know about these cars!
as for the engine I see you have a 350 tpi? Any thoughts to maybe changing the powerplant to ltx or even lsx if your up to it? Both offer great gains over stock and only keep shining when modded.
the hatch pulldown motor is a very common problem in these cars also. Most do fail and can take a pretty penny to replace!

Re: New 89' Iroc
Hmmm no i have not thought about that actually. I enjoy doing most of the work myself but i just started school and unfortunately have no garage ( moving to a house soon but still no garage hope to get some kind of little covered thing to help a little. Thats the problem ill run into is not having anywhere to work :/ But ill have to look into that...got any links with some good info? And yeah thats what i figured lol but yes prices on those things is ridiculous...hate having to slam my hatch closed though so i guess im gonna end up replacing it. Actually now that i think about it i believe there is a another motor in the trunk i may get out this weekend and see if i can figure out if it works lol
As far as pics...dont worry about that i got yall covered for sure

Nice car! Can't go wrong with black and gold. Not a huge fan of the way the stripes were laid out, but it's cool. I'd drive it.

Welcome to the board. You have a very nice car. I agree with Coolwheels84. Not sure if I like the stripes like that but it's still cool. Its different. It'll eventually grow on me. Keep us posted on progress and post pics as you go along. Dont be afraid to ask questions no matter how stupid they may sound. We are all here to help fellow thirdgen owners.

Thanks man and yeah the stripes will definitely grow on you trust me lol and your gonna regret saying that! My first stupid question is how are your fog light connectors set up? Ive never seen them done like mine before. As i said before my bulbs look fine but its some funky set up....i dont know how to explain it...its like the bulb has a conducting "rod" that has to touch a metal piece on the end of the wire....if that make sense...if not i can get pics tomorrow.

Re: New 89' Iroc
Of course.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...third-gen.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...questions.html
both are stickies in the engine swap section in the ltx and lsx forums.
ltx is a little less complicated as it uses quite a bit of gen 1 sbc design. Gen 1 headers work so you don't need to fab. A exhaust up. And you can reuse your 700r4 with the stock crossmember and what not. But ltx has a optisark design that gives some people big headaches.
lsx however is a gen 3 design and is very different from the previous gen 1 and 2 designs.. however it is the most powerful and responds the most to mods. You will need new motormounts and most don't use a 700r4. They upgrade to a t56(6 speed) or a 460le which is the electronic version of the 700r4.
both will need a new wiring harness which can be brought or made as we have tons of info on that part of the swap also. I myself have done a ls1 swap and am very happy with it. Good gas mileage, great powr and good torque band with great driveability
but just something to think about

Re: New 89' Iroc
The red wire in your pic is aftermarket wire. You will have to trace it to see where its going. The 2 pics you posted, the first is the egr solinoid. That gets mounted under the coil, sandwiched between the coil and the coil bracket. The wire connetor isnt plugged into it either. The second pic of the connectors are most likely the connectors for the emissions diverter valve which is no longer on the pass. side of the engine. Somebody took off the emissions stuff. Looks like all hoses are gone, diverter valve and air tubes on the exhaust manifolds. Only thing that looks like thats left is the air pump mounted under the ac compressor. That will make noise when the engine is running, if the outlet of it open to the air.

Oops lol I knew something looked like it was missing would you recommend replacing that or does it really matter all that much? And I'll trace that wire tomorrow and see what I can find out

Nice car.
The smog crap isnt needed. Thats what the white and green connectors are for.
Also just throw thoes fog lights in the trash. They are not original, and you can get a new set for $20 like thoes at autozone.
